This is a 980 nM (near IR) device which is optically coupled to a fiber optic.
The beam isn't bright, kind of faint deep red abd the output is dangerous.
I also don't know how difficult it would be to take of the fiber and add a lens for projecting a beam.

how did he make it though it looks like it just comes from a pc port? i like lasers but id be scared to death around this one but still a pretty cool toy to have (i dont think people will be tempted to play with their cats with this laser) hehe

yea why is it in a pc port? that thing ir near ir as mike said, so it will be a faint red, or really bright blue on a camera

Oh - it probably was controlled via serial port for some purpose....WAY overpriced though - you can get the 2Watt fibre coupled diodes like this for close to $50 if you look hard enough !
