I have a MXDL with a phazor LD, my DDL circuit (w/LM317T) pushes out 420mA. I've had it put together for a while, hooked up my phazor last saturday, put bats in and turned it on......nothing not the faintest hint of red anywhere. I have no clue what could be wrong with it and my job is keeping me too busy to mess with it until August.
I am looking for someone who would be interested in taking a look at it and possibly fixing it for me. I'll pay shipping both ways for a US resident and pay you for your time. please pm me. THANKS!

Are you using RCR123A batteries? If yes, measure the voltage of each battery. I have two RCR123A when the protection circuit kicks in the battery shuts down measured 0V.

Good idea from TheMonk! I have also had a bad battery before. Intermittent. Probably the protection circuit...

420ma is kinda high for a phazor, its not an open can diode. You may want to also lower the current to 380ma, if it lives.

That would be nice if 420mA's is ok for those Phazors! I have two of them. But, I am hoping to see a graph from drlava before I use one. His awesome graph will tell the story...

Re: don't know whats wrong but willing to pay for

I'd be careful over 380 mA on a phazor. I've gone to 420 mA and backed down to 400 mA.

Re: don't know whats wrong but willing to pay for

i found out what it was. one of my bats was sagging or whatever. but where i cut my aixiz to fit the heatsink, it was a rough edge and when i put it together it cut into my wire and made a connection. i fixed it and now i have a red spotlight 1/2 in diameter.
did it blow or do i need to focus it better?

Re: don't know whats wrong but willing to pay for

Adjust the lens some, and then post a picture :) The "spotlight" may be caused by no lens present, if you trimmed the back plastic part too much, the lens will simply fall right out, then you cannot adjust it ! Check to make sure you have a lens, and then adjust it - take some pics of the result :)

Re: don't know whats wrong but willing to pay for

IF you want to trim the plastic on the back of the Aixiz modules, you need to CAREFULLY use an exacto knife or similar - start at the center, make sure you do not insert the blade too far in, or you will scratch the crud out of the lens ! Using tiny motions, slice, or chip away at the tiny black circular "plug". If you trim it TOO much - your lens will fall out, so make sure to leave about 1mm around the edge (approx) so it doesn't fall out. This WILL increase the output power significantly, as you are letting much more light into the lens ! The reason the hole is so tiny on the back end is to correct the emission patterns of some diodes - some emit in a squarish pattern, others in a bar type - and the circle would cut off the excess, allowing only a round shape to go through the aperture. They are very tricky to trim, be careful not to cut yourself, or to damage the lens in any way - IF everything comes apart on you, use a tiny amount of glue to hold the "plug" in place - sometimes if you use too much super glue, it can cloud the lens - so again be careful ! I promise it is much scarier to describe how to do it, than it actually is to do it !

I believe SenKat means the back of the lens, many people (including me) make the hole in the back bigger to let more light through.
Look at this pic taken by jayrob.

EDIT: SenKat beat me.
