After ordering the FIRST regulated PSU from Deadal, I was so amased of how good it worked, that I wanted to "help" all the minimag and direct drive users of youtube.

So, i'll post a link to this page on all the videos I see with "2 AA's" connected to a LD.

And I should also add that the quality o Deadal's PSU is amazing, everything protected within a cube so nothing can get damaged.

If your using 2 AA's, I would recommend that you buy one of these from Daedal. You will have the same power laser, but add 1000's of hours to the life of the laser ;D

Use Google checkout to get them.

Here is where you get them:

2 pots to set and it works great! Even when I put a huge load on the power supply :D, the voltage and current remain the same.

SAVE A LIFE!, BY PROTECTING A LASER DIODE FROM AA's ;D

Sorry, Noob here :)

Can someone explain what this thing is and what is it used for and if it is worth getting one?

This would be greatly appreciated :)

Take a peek in the experiments and mods section - there are many threads regarding Daedal's circuit that he makes....he has posted all the plans, and the parts lists as well - but for those that are nervous, or do not solder, he offers them pre-made for anyone to use...they price is quite reasonable, considering everything that he has to go through to do it, so to FINALLY answer your question - YES ! They are worth it, to buy from him is ensuring your success with these diodes - let me re-phrase that.....if you get one of his circuits, you WILL succeed as long as you are careful :)

Please let me note that these have a capacitor on the output line for further regulation. If the diode is not firmly connected to the circuit, the diode will blow out. I suggest caution and common sense. :)

Please make sure your connections to and from the PSU are solid before you turn it on. I have a switch included on there for this sole purpose ;)

Hey Daedal,

I've been planning on using a small battery connector like this with the diodes. I have 5 of those and the holes on the connector are spaced perfectly for the pins on these 5.6mm laser diode cans. I'm assuming I won't be able to use these, correct?

Could I just solder a capacitor to the LD pins with some wires leading from the cap, and then use alligator clips to complete the circuit? Or would it still blow out?

Thanks!

If the pins on it are tight enough to where the LD doesn't have any wiggle room, then you should be able to use them and I don't see why you shouldn't. Ont he other hand, it's always better to solder directly to the LD to get the best result. With LD's you don't have a lot of chances... it's just one. If you blow it then it's done... :(

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try it on one of my remaining Rohm diodes since Gazoo said he's been told that the Rohms aren't very good for overdriving. If it doesn't blow with the connector that will be excellent.

I would say that the pins are fairly tight in the holes. They will come out with a good pull, but I don't think under normal circumstances they will disconnect.

I'll let everyone know how it goes when my circuit and multimeter arrives. :)

Maybe we should start the slogan

No it was not I whom was told that. It was Robin (the creator of Die4Thing and Die4Drive) whom relayed that information to VaThink, whom in turn posted it on CPF.

hey paper, There is no video, I'm just posting comments on every laser video that uses direct drive.

but I might make a video.
