Custom Build?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for someone who can build a custom laser for me, using this host Solarforce M6 - CREE XM-L - 550 Lumens - 1 x 18650 battery and a 30 mW green module (I was eyeing the one from Lazerer). I'm new to lasers so I'm just looking for someone who can make a custom heat sink for that host and put everything together. My budget is around $115-$130. If anyone can and is willing to do that, it'd be great! I know most of you are veterans when it comes to lasers so I know I'm asking the best people for the job!

Best regards,
John

You can also have an entire custom host from Eudaimonium his new host "Phobos" is very beautiful and fits a green module with a smaller CR123A size battery..
You can PM to make you one..
Here is one made by a member a couple of weeks ago.
If you want something like this you can just buy a host from him and insert a module by yourself if u are a diy kind of person..

I'm not very good at that kind of stuff, that's the problem :/ I really like this flashlight host though, but I'm not sure how to outfit it with a module so that's why I've come here to see if any of you could do it for a moderate price.

1. get jayrob to machine a heatsink
2. put the module in the heatsink with set screw
3. put that in the host.
4. battery goes in positive side facing tail cap
The heatsink has two purposes first is cool your build and second is to get your lasers +or- connection, in your case its +

Yea, Get jayrob to make you one.

Do you already have the flashlight and module? I don't know if you can make an 18650 fit with a green module. The green modules are longer than a regular diode/driver and extend back further into the host. If the host normally takes an 18650, it may only fit an 18350 or an rcr123. It may work though since it looks like there is more space toward the front of that light.

The twisty output control on the front won't be able to regulate the output from the laser, but maybe it could be modified to function as a focus adjustment. I don't know if all the other fancy "strobe" modes would work or not. If they are built into the tail cap, they might, but most likely they are all on the same circuit witch will be removed.

That flashlight head can fit a pretty good sized heatsink, and would certainly keep a 30mW module cool. You could get a much larger module if you desire, but it might run the cost outside your budget.

If you are open to other host ideas, you have more options. Unless you are dead-set on using that host, there are probably better ones out there. That one costs $55, most of the Ultrafire/Trustfire hosts are mush less than that. I agree though, that Solarforce is a cool looking host.

I'm pretty dead set on using this host, but I just want a 532 nm laser at 30 mW. I have virtually no experience with electronics and my budget is limited so I don't want to risk messing things up by getting my own diode, driver, soldering, etc. I wanted to see if any of you can do that for me, I PMed a few guys like yobresal for talks but if anyone wants to take a shot at it go ahead.

OK. you should have no problem finding someone to make you one. The length issue still might come up, the host normally houses an 18650 battery, so you may have to use an 18350, or 16340 (rcr123). The 532nm modules come pre-assembled, so you would only need to stick it in the host and tighten a set screw. Most of them also come with side switches on the driver board however, so that would need to be bypassed (which will require soldering). http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-diy-green-kit-host-heatsink-easy-assembly-22520.html
But you can also get modules that are bypassed already. Here is a good source for 30mW modules, and if I remember right these guys will give you the option of bypassing the switch:

Question... why do you want specifically a custom 30mW laser?

You can easily get premade ~30mW green lasers for a heck of a lot less than it would cost you for the module and that host.

I'm expecting a package soon with two of these: LZSK - 532nm 50mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer

I'll do a mini review when they arrive, but I'm sure you can ask lazerer, or another company go pick out a 30mW laser for you, that runs off a 18650 battery, and it will be much cheaper.

I'm a product designer and this host fits almost exactly into my "portfolio" of sorts, and I plan on making rings/jewelry that incorporates lasers into the presentation, whether it be diffraction gratings instead of gemstones or fiber optics to get a ring to glow.

I also really love this host, and I think a custom built will be much better aesthetically than the generic laser hosts that those companies sell (I know lazerer has some good ones, I already bought one from Max but again it doesn't fit into my designs.)

Also, being an artist, I like to be in control of how my stuff looks, changing what i don't like into something that looks good. Thus I plan on collaborating with Lazeerer (not Lazerer :p) to produce a custom made laser that fits my specifications. I know it's out of the ordinary but then again, lasers ARE extraordinary ;)
30 mW is just so onlookers can look at the beam made by the laser, but still minimal danger seeing as that laser will not be pointed at any onlookers. Beam will be reflected upwards into the sky/ceiling but smoke will make the beam visible.

Cheers,
John

Why do you think he will need more power? It sounds like he will be inside with smoke...

Correct, it will be part of an exhibit that features lasers beams incorporated into jewelry. I plan on having at least one feature a diffraction grating as a "stone" and having the beam reflected upwards. Also working on fiber optics and GITD in another piece, hopefully creating an effect somewhat reminiscent of Tron.

There will be little danger of having the beam reflected into an onlookers eyes, as the beams will be shone upward. Seeing if I can get an exhibit outdoors that will allow me to shine the beam into the sky. Along with smoke, the particulates in the air should provide full visiblity of the beam.

I'm working with Lazeerer on this build, who was kindly the first to offer to help me with the build. He has been amazing with his service, answering TONS of PMs to him. I will write a review of his work when I get my laser.
