Well, Daedal just posted his full driver and it looks awesome, but I was wondering if anyone also was interested in some budget drivers (they aren't really too hard to build, but I know it can be a total pain in the butt for someone just starting who only wants a few drivers). So I was wondering, what types of diodes/currents/voltages would you like to driver? What is a reasonable target price per unit that I should work towards?

I'm just looking to etch some simple boards, nothing fancy. Just filtered and heatsinked, with an adjustable pot for output current (or depending on the diodes, perhaps voltage limited instead to support a larger range). However I can also make some fast TTL modulated ones if there's much interest (these would only be available in voltage regulated).

So... any comments/opinions? Any specific size requirements perhaps? I have the parts to make a few right now, but nothing in quantity till I know exactly what types of diodes I'm making them for and what your requirements are.

I would like a boost circuit if possible so we could run off of one or two NIMH batteries.. ;)

Well if you could make them to fit SenKat's GB diodes that would be great. If I didn't have one already, I would have no problem spending $10-$17 shipped for a board

i would love to have a driver circuit that can accept 3v (dorcy mini) and/or 4.5v (dorcy metal gear) and would fit inside.... size is obviously worth consideration since there wouldnt be too much wiggle room. let me know; i would probabally buy one.

I actually have the parts for that too and was planning on trying it out later in the week, just been pretty dang busy, but I'll let you know if I get anything working.

Yes, please do. I don't know anything about boost circuits except I would be interested in one. I envision a tiny powerful laser powered by one AAA nimh...

Here's a 210 mW red powered by ONE aa cell.  It is built into a CREE Ultrafire C3 flashlight.

It's only limited by your imagination !!! OH - You said aaa cell -- WOW that's small.

Yes AAA would be very small. But that light is tempting. From what I understand it can also be run off a 14500 3.6V AA Rechargeable battery. Decisions decisions... ;D

Electrically, its not impossible. Practically? Dunno. 1 AAA NiMH gives what? ~1.0 useable Watt hours or so? Not gunna get too great of a battery life out of that :(

You're right there AND there's no heatsinking so very short duty cycles.
I loaded my C3 with brass around that mini Aixiz module and it gets real warm in about 30 seconds. There's trade offs here.

Good points. Heat would be the biggest issue. But for short duty cycles, it would be impressive, and short duty cycles would be easier on the poor little nimh battery. One thing for sure, I would not attempt this with an open can diode. They get hot real fast!

I have two red diodes(the DVD ones) on the way and would like to buy a couple of drivers that would fit inside a Mini Mag or a Cree to be 3v to 6v dc input and what ever mw needed for these diodes. (I believe it is 250 or 200 mw). Let me know the price to make it worth your while...
