Buying: quality multimeter

I want a not to expensive digital multimeter wich sells on ebay or by yourself.
The only thing i want it to be is quality. So it wont blew when trying to measure 240V.
And to the dot accurate isnt really nessacary.
Just something that wont break, and is a bit accurate.
Please only recommend me something youve used more then 15 times.

How much $$$/€€€ do you want to spent ? I recommend Fluke DMM but they are not the cheapest meters around.

Yeah im never going to spend more then 50 on just a multimeter while they cost 6 dollar as well. Ofcource that will be lesser quality but of all the cheaper range there has to be a solution?:)

Clamp meters can measure higher currents (+600A) but that isn't really necessary. Why do would you want to measure 240 volts? That's dangerous and pointless.

Meh i said it per accident. I thought if it could measure 240V that it would be strong. But in electronics, that probaly sounds stopid.

I got a really nice auto ranging, no-name DMM at my local electronics store on sale... I don't recall who actually makes it though... It's been working like a champ for years...

I think most multi-meters > $30 will be decent... I wouldn't except much from those $10 home depot jobbies. Most decent meters will have a bunch of fuses in them so if you do something stupid it will pop the fuse rather than the meter.

Whatever you do get an auto-ranging meter, the other kind is for suckers.

i found a review of it online, and the guy says its got good pretection and it got stuff quality units have.
Cant recall technical stuff but okay.
Only thing i dislike that i think it only measures until 200mA. i can probaly not use this for my lasers :(
ive looked at more meters but seems alot of them dont measure high amperage.

I don't really like those pen style meters but at least it's auto ranging...
Is that a max of 250 mA? If so that's pretty weak.

I think its a nice style to measure:)
But still have to receive it.
Yes the mA is pretty weak.
Wont be able to use it for that.

It's funny this should pop up as a topic now as i just fried mine last night and hard to order a new one. Wife was having problems with her laptop PSU and I was checking the AC line cable for faults when the DMM fell off the table I had it on and it knocked into the current position. I opened it up and there's two fried resistors and a trace that needs replaced. It still works, barely, somehow, haha, but the resistors' color codes are all vaporized off so I can't repair it until I get a new dmm.

Anyway I went searching the usual places and found an awesome deal on Amazon:

You can use these cheap DMMs they measure up to 750VAC
and 1000 DCV and can measure up to 10Amps.

New LCD Digital Voltmeter Ammeter Ohm Multimeter DT830 | eBay

We keep a few in the shop for mundane measurements and
when one blows due to operator error we just throw it out
and take a new one off the shelf...

We have muck more expensive Meters for any precision work...

I always just use the harbor freight cheepo meters. You can pick them up for a few dollars on sale sometimes. I think they were giving them away with a coupon not too long ago

They are cheap enough to keep several on hand. :).
