I dunno. It's always the friday after thanksgiving, so it would think it's just a USA thing.

I think Canada celebrates thanksgiving too. Not sure if they have black Friday sales or not though.

Canada's Thanksgiving is a different date, and they celebrate "Boxing Day" the day after christmas, which is just like our Black Friday.

"Why? "

You miss the point. Because you aren't likely to do it.
If you do manage to show up, he will give it to you though.

Canada is starting to be influenced by the US "Black Friday" thing though. Although our Thanksgiving is based on a date following a certain lunar occurrence in Canada so it falls on different days or weekends each year. Always up to a month before the US date. But it is kind of neat as far as traditions go. Just hard to plan in advance for unless you have a lunar calender and know the application. (If you have extended families that include Americans you get to have TWO Thanksgiving dinners though !)
There are a lot of "coincidental" sales and special deals up here that just happen to be on the same day as the US special days. And that isn't even taking into consideration the proliferation of US based retail outlets spreading across the country.
But as the term "Black Friday" actually pertains to the economics of the businesses and less to the time of year the application to any and every country would make it different.
Just to be technical.

In fact, I think it's the other way around. The US is starting to be influenced by the Canadian (real) Thanksgiving date, not vice versa.

See, Canadian (real) Thanksgiving occurs on the second Monday of October. Apparently, Americans have actually manufactured a parallel holiday that occurs on the exact same day each year, named after some fictional character called "Columbus" who supposedly discovered North America.

It's comically humourous, I know.

Also humourous? The fact that my American spell checker is trying to take away the "u" in humourous.
We're all so different!

Ok, time to get back to 30 Rock and my Diet Pepsi.
