Already ~$500 in diodes have been toast. If you want to add yours to the pile so be it. :beer:

Yea I read that thread I know, I'm willing to risk it, hopefully it won't end up being 560$ of toasted diodes :na:

But I'm seriously going to try it first, if I see it gets very bright right on startup then dims and stabablizes then I'll know it does indeed have that voltage spike problem, I'll try again with a additional capacitor and see how it goes. That's it

Even is you max out your a-140 wit a dual ben boost it os risky to have a too high input voltage be ware of that people

I think it is a bit harsh and premature to say that.

First, we don't KNOW that the benboost is killing these diodes yet. Certainly more testing needs to be done to see what the situation is with the drivers and this diode, and I say that as someone who had a very rough day with the benboost diodes and 12x 405's before there was any idea that there might be a problem with the drivers and these diodes.

I went through 3 diodes on a build that had been working fine with a linear driver...

Second, we don't know what testing Ben and RHD did before releasing these. They may have tested them fully and this is something that wasn't foreseeable.

Hopefully they will share the testing that they did beforehand and help test the drivers going forward to see if there is a problem with the 12x and/or single mode diodes. But they had very good motives in building and releasing these and I don't think a witch hunt is the way to go, nor do I think they are likely to help if they see this as an attack on them.

It would be different if they had been selling them and sent out a bunch of drivers that were killing everyone's diodes, but since these were open source and no one was making anything off of them I don't think there is any reason to go after them with pitchforks and torches.

All I said was they should have done more testing before releasing the final design. How is that pitchforks? $500 in diodes got toasted on the same driver. I never said this was conclusive, but it is large enough to warn membership about possible problems before these flood the forum. Am I wrong for doing this??? This was far from an attack. I respect everything both of them do for the community. You're completely spinning this in the wrong direction, and putting words in my mouth. I'm trying to inform the community, and you make it sound like I putting people down for their efforts. What the hell is your problem?

I wasn't putting words in your mouth TJ. I sincerely apologize if you feel like I did. I just think it is premature to say that there is definitely a problem and we don't know what testing that Ben and RHD did before releasing them. More testing needs to be done before we can say for sure.
