My recommendation is to stay away from flash powder, there are so many things that can go wrong. I'm telling you this from experience, I quit the pyro hobby because I knew I was taking too much of a risk. You can also get in huge trouble with the law these days if you are caught with all of this "terrorist" hype.

Also, your sig is wrong, only you get extra points from the DX order, whoever else uses that link won't get any extra points. ;D

See now I like to see someone like styropyro there wising up and realizing how dangerous this stuff is. I mean for crying out loud even the professionals for stunts and stuff still occasionally blow off fingers and crap. Mythbusters blew out windows in a town because of it. It's just rediculous to put your life on the line for a 1/16th of a second worth of bang and some destruction.

@styro

really? I thought i read somewhere that both got benefits?

Yea, i'll stay with thermite, it doesn't explode as violent. And it's legal ;)

Luckily thermite just doesn't "go off" :eek:)
Well that's because it has a fairly high ignition temp :p and flash powder simply doesn't just go off as people make it seem. I've tested it rigorously and throughout the many tests I've conducted it seems to be actually fairly resistant to igniting :-/ I put a lit match on top of a pile of flash powder and it took around 10 seconds to ignite. I actually directly shocked it with an electrode and it didn't ignite. Impact sensitivity is also questionable. Shouldn't they explode when I throw them from 2 stories onto the hard ground? Of course don't get the wrong idea, it's entirely dangerous and I DO treat it as if it could kill me (since it can). For those who think the excitement isn't worth the risk, well, you simply don't have a heightened sense of fun like I.

A cool, cheap, fun and dangerous firework is get a tennis ball, cut a 2-3" slit in it, then buy 2 large boxes of strike anywere matches, break off all the heads and put them in the tennis ball (sometimes I add extra stuff like magnesium shavings or ground up sparklers or rocket engines), then tape up the hole, find a nice hard surface (were you cant damage anything) and throw it into the ground (or put a fuse in the slit) and it should do greatly varying effects. I really DO NOT advise this unless you REALLY REALLY know what you are doing.

One time I thought I knew what I was doing, I had a soda bottle filled with butaine gas, with 2 nails poked in, 2 wires attached to the nails, and an electric lighter piezo switch attached to the wires. I was trying to get the nails closer for a better spark (because it was a remote pea shooter) and my friend clicked the switch accedentaly and a burst of hot burning butaine hit my open eye. it hurt like hell for about 3 days then eventualy got better, and soon my vision was back to normal (better than 20/20 vision) but this stuff is still VERY dangerous, so always wear eye protection whenever dealing with fire or lasers or something like this could happen.

Nice :) Cool with an ingniter.. and safer. I would just wait with connection the electricity untill i am away :p

I won't make powder, but it would be cool to make some black powder, place inside something very tight and transperent, and then take a powerfull red laser on a tripod and ignite the powder at distance ;)

The igniter you made, is it just a battery and some wires, and when you turn it on, a spark comes?

Just like butane lighters using a piezoelectric igniter.
