I think you're over-thinking.

The cooler your iron can be and still melt the solder decently, the better (in my mind).

Short, fast fast solders. After you solder one lead, I'd probably let it cool before the other, so that the heat doesn't compound itself. I also generally unplug my soldering iron right before soldering the diode itself.

ahh I notice my radio shack station has a plug for a grounding line but no such cable, can trace volts enter from the iron into the diode or do you unplug so it dont spike in temp?

spikes -

And I don't know whether the physics/science is on my side or not, but I just do it because "why not?"

Basically, don't take any chances right? Cooler always = better with laser diodes. And less voltage spike potential, also a good thing :)

I don't have a clue when my LPM will get here. The tracking info on the website has not been updated since the LPM shipped 4 days ago. If its not here by Friday I must prolong this auction. I will keep everyone updated.

Considering you're in the US, I certainly don't mind waiting to have the laser tested, I don't think others will either.

Actually, I know a guy locally who has an LPM so if my LPM isn't here I will see if I can meet up with him. I don't know why I didn't think about that earlier.

Yeah it's not a big deal, just if you start it at $100, and people bid 1 cent higher at a time, you could get $100.50 for it, and had 50 bids go through, and at the last second ten people bid 5 cents or 1 dollar higher, and it's not really an auction

No big deal though, I am very happy with how my auction went!
