One thing I always do is I never shoot it up in the sky long enough to let the police track me down by it and at night I can hear the police heli coming long before they could ever get a handle on where it's located to send a patrol car plus this housing community is huge with lots of winding, twisting roads and most every road is a dead end cul-de-sac and to top it off it has 3 long lakes running parallel to each other and running diagonally through it from one corner to the other ! like a big maze so to fig out when I'm located a cop car would need to be a street or two over in the same track as mine to have a chance of tracking it down to be coming from my back yard, Heck there are 4 back yards connected to each other on the right side of my back yard and 4 on the left side so which is it coming from ? They don't stand a chance without a heli spotter telling where to go.

Even if the police started knocking on doors in the area and someone told them "ya I seen a guy standing in front of that house right there and shoot a laser up in the air" it wouldn't make any difference because I would say "nope, they were mistaken, No lasers here" and that would be that.......

All they would know for sure is "It's coming from somewhere in this area" ? And unless they get their eyes on me directly doing it they won't be coming in my house looking for a laser because I know my rights and all they will get from me is "Sorry I can't help you, Good bye" and again that would be that.......

They won't be turning down my street and I'm just standing in front of my house shooting a laser in the air, I can tell you that much ! lol

If you are doing nothing illegal and/or stupid with your laser like shining on aircrafts, cars, people etc. They have nothing against you. Unless you meet some jerk who needs to prove to his boss he is doing something worth what he is paid for, you should be fine IMO. But it is definitely better to stay hidden and not attract too much attention. And if the officer sees you with laser in hand, it is better to tell the truth, that you are laser enthusiast aware and respecting safety and use your laser responsibly, they may even become interested and be more friendly to you. Unfortunately there is enough idiots with lasers missusing them to make them think something, so if you show you are not one of them, this might actually help other laserists as the police see such people exist.

Would it be any brighter or is the input regulated ? If it's pretty much close to the same I have 20 18650 Li-ion batteries for it.....
No, I didn't mean it for RedC's lights, just if you were to mod one of the hosts with a laser build..

LIke RedC said I just don't want that initial aggravation as it will lead to less and less of what little I do use them now:(
Red, a while back I went to CVS and filled a script of codeine cough syrup and they sealed the bottle with this handle gizmo over the cap with some type of foil. Could this be a UV type thing?

We have to all do our part and be responsible, that is try not to be part of the problem by antagonizing the authorities, if you are anywhere near an airport do not aim your beams over that airspace, at 3am or when the skies are clear aim away from any airports if it's legal in your area.

I still enjoy a 100-200mw 660nm beam, you can enjoy it without bothering anyone else for the most part, really a 5mw greenie is fun on a dark night.

edit----

It's probably just a foil seal, I don't know why it would have any UV element to it, maybe in the label as a security deal.

I'm an aircraft mechanic or at least I use to be and I'm the last person who would ever point a laser anywhere near a airplane, All my tough talk aside I Really haven't given them a reason to try and hunt me down and I never will and besides that you can't see this beam from just anywhere in the city because I put that to the test last night when I had a friend who lives about 10 miles away walk outside and look up and I shot it as low as I could in his direction without hitting any houses and he couldn't see it at all, So there is a limit as to how far away it can be seen from the ground, even with a beam expander and a needle thin beam......

This is the 3 watt UV light I bought......

YES, the beam looks the brightest coming at you or just past you and 2nd brightest going away, but from the side they disappear quickly, so if you steer clear of airport airspace ( Towers ) and within 30 degrees of aircraft the beam could be invisible or lighter, it's why I use lens flare hiders because from the side that's all people see, however when I am burning at night and smoke is in the air I shut off for passing cars or drown the beam out with my house mounted floodlights.

Here is an example, notice the fireworks, the airplane sees the laser flash only on the narrow path, the people on the beach are not even pointing at the dam airplane, they are swirling their beams around in the fireworks smoke.

I say this for all our hobbies benefit and our protection.
Best thing to do is if you see an airplane anywhere just shut it down, cameras are everywhere and on aircraft as you can see, so don't let them build a case, wait until it is clear, that's my thinking, but you are responsible for your own actions.
I would not be surprised at all if all aircraft get fitted with multiple cameras, so over time a persons location where flashes are seen, EVEN IF NOT ILLUMINATING THE COCKPIT, that location could get a visit, I say if a plane is in your sight at all shut it down. Just my advise.

This Blue still draws attention even from the side. A 660nm red will disappear easily.

Yep so if your not pointing it right at someone they are not all that visible as it would seem from the prospective of the person holding the laser might believe.....

EDIT - The foil might have a anit-tamper UV security component to it like the security strip in newer money.....

That is exactly the effect I use in my artworks. ;)

True, to contribute - Optotronics offer also upgrade of lasers - might be an option, if GSS is interested and nobody here buys it.
Upgrade your Optotronics Portable Laser | High Power Portable green laser products for the 21st century
Not sure if you might "upgrade" from laser to optics for example, but might be worth to ask Jack.

Yes, I don't have any of Pman's builds personally, but have heard nothing but good reviews from people who do. If I were you, Peter, I'd go for it.

RedC,:shhh: and no wonder ebay keeps telling me "out of stock" haha:eek:
Accu, I guess you do live in a maze but unfortunately for me they will come directly to Apt 1103. Example, one guy in particular is in a wheel chair and everytime I bump into him he will tell me I have 2 months more for my car inspection sticker. He wheels around all day looking and calls the police. What pisses me off even more is he's posted as a child moles****:yabbmad: and everytime I see him I want to smash his face in. I guess the police need snitches:banghead:
Also though on the other side, its very easy to make a mistake as iv'e posted before I shined a laser down a tunnel in front of the building at 3:00AM and hit the fire station bay doors missing the window by a foot.
Its sad not to be able to enjoy but I just now do it less frequent and safer:)

Edit: accu you can use 2 16340's in the ultrafire...

Maybe one day he takes the stairs. :shhh:
