Be aware that zombies use the same current as full powered diodes AND create just as much heat

Also, if whoever gets this replaces the diode, please consider sending it to me. There is a gentleman up in Northern California that is researching this phenomenon.

Peace,
dave

I should actually change this -

Doesn't have to be a $50 donation if nobody wants to donate that much. I'll say that short of $50, the highest donation offered is cool with me?

I MUST see that movie, daguin....
EDIT:Then again, I pretty sure I've already seen that movie.:D:crackup:

xuen7 (+ others):

I wasn't actually intending for this to be an auction - I merely meant to add the revision that if nobody offered $50, I'd take the highest offer below $50

(I say "take" - wrong word really - I want you to make the donation right to LPF. Maybe someone can confirm once you have - or just the honor policy?)

Anyway, with Xuen7 offering $50, I'll take input from the forum. Do I send this to him for his $50 donation, or should we continue bidding above $50?

They should be able to show you their PayPal receipt

Researching diodes that got pumped with to much current? @daguin what is he researching??

At this point, he is simply cataloging the damage. As the experience here reflects, very few of these are being blown. They are very robust and/or are capable of more than we can normally give them ;) In addition, often the real "cause" is unknown. If the person does not have a specific "out-of-the-ordinary" event at the failure of the diode, it is (at this time) impossible to know if it died from over-current, over-voltage, ESD, over-heat, impact, and/or defect. Also, it needs to be determined if it was mechanical failure or COD

The main problem with this kind of research in laser diodes is that the field is advancing more quickly than the failure research is. By the time we begin to understand how and why failure, a new, more powerful, diode has been released :wtf:

dave

Well, i had one that lased for half second and then died, so maybe they don't take so much overstr..... uh, no, wait ..... that one was the one i had hooked to a driver where i used a wrong RSET value for a mistake (confused silver and gold), and shooted in the LD 12A instead 1.2A ..... nevermind  .....

(yes, i also made some mistakes, time by time :cryyy:)

I'd say thats a good thing, more top markets things flooding we can expect lower prices...

And thats a 2 edge sword allowing even more idiots have access to more power...

Yea its still good of course... I mean $50 for a laser is a good deal plus this website has helped me a lot so i guess its about time i did something in return as well... My initial idea was to set this bidding at $50. I expected it to go for a lot higher than that... Well it must be my lucky day =)
