Re: 700mW Green Laser 532nm Adjustable $900

UPDATE

New price for this laser is $250. Output is around 200mW. See graphs.

You might want to change the title of the thread to show the lower price.

It's a nice laser, and if I was in the market for a green I'd take it for that price.

Thanks for the advice Infinitus, I just took care of that. Trevor is going to post some more graphs once he gets the chance.

I've been watching this thread very closely... I just can't spend anymore money on lasers for the time being, but a good quality 700mW 532nm laser... well that catches my attention.

Anyway, good luck with the sale... For the price you're offering IMO it's at least half a steal:beer:

It's not a 700mW laser IE
Look at the graphs, it is a +/-200mW with a startup peak of 400-500mW

Yup, I know... looked at those graphs a lot actually:eek:

The initial claim was what got my interest.

Still it held fairly well for 1 minute... dropping to 200mW after that. I typically keep my duty cycles to 1 minute or so.

All that said, I have a 400mW o-like already, so for my next green it will have to be a stable 500mW+

Okay, so I ran five more tests. I have good news and bad news.

Good news: it can sustain >250mW for almost two minutes, with a 470mW peak.

Bad news: it needs to be cooled completely between uses to get full power. For these next two tests, I don't think I let it cool long enough.

Please note that in this one it had hopped up to >250mW again when the test ended.

It definitely has an area temperature-wise where it is quite happy.

And a final test.

And all of them overlaid.

So, we know that this laser gives really nice output when cold started with a full or almost full battery. We also know that it's pretty temperature dependent.

When there's high output, this laser is definitely running quite multimode. The large power changes seen in the power graph are due to mode hopping. That being said, most low-cost Chinese lasers run in a pretty interesting transverse mode.

Good work Trev. Did you try to power it with 2x CR123 yet? Don´t know if this is also a VIASHO built, but their builts have two "special drivers" which can handle 6V or 2x LiFePO4 batts (2x 3.2V) easily.

I have not, since it's not my laser and is of unknown origin. ><

^^^I killed one laser like that. It was a cheapie so no big deal, but still, without knowing if the driver/diode can handle it... I wouldn't try it either.

If you originally paid $900 for this, then I think you might be better off just keeping it and enjoying it.

I can't see you getting any more than $150 for a 200mW laser of this style, considering you can grab a similar laser new for under that price point.

I'd say, just hold on to it and enjoy it :)

Hi DJNY,
No this laser is not a Viasho and I want to make it clear to anyone who owns a Viasho, the Viasho lasers do not have any "special drivers" that allow 6V operation using 2x CR123 batteries; they are designed for a max of 4V (under load) using 1x 18650 cell and using 2x cr-123 batteries will destroy it either immediately or within a short amount at this voltage.

I'm sure you never heard this from Viasho, most likely some forum member who tried it and thought it was a good idea as it didn't immediately fry his laser.

Good to know Jake. But I also never got a clear answer from Frank (VIASHO) if the Dinodirect´s are genuine VIASHO builts or not. You´re right not to suggest the 2x CR123 option without knowing the inner working of these builts. But I remember rhd mentioned two seperate drivers in these DINO builts which are fine for 2x CR123.
