Good luck with the sale Alex! :)

Make sure you check with Paul before you get the 505nm diode so you can be sure you get one of the lower wavelength ones! Maybe the cheaper 473 or 480 diodes will be back by the time you're ready to replace this one.

Hello Rivem,

I was actually thinking of buying a completed module from DTR. I was reading build threads and basically I think I got it down, except for a simple part.

The PCB board is as follows:
Creative Technology - Switch PCB Page Creative Technology - Your source for diode lasers and laser modules at green, red and other wavelengths.

  • 1) Cut down the leads so they fit inside PCB host sold by Laser66
  • 2) Attach the module to the PCB switch(this is where I am confused. How do you connect the module driver to the PCB board? Anywhere you want?)
  • 3) Fit module inside pen host
  • 4) Enjoy 505! :D

Not sure how the sizing works with DTR's driver, but the general idea is to solder the driver lead(s) onto a pad that the switch is connected to. Look at the build threads for more details. I know I've seen layouts several times in the past.

Still, some of the 505nm diodes seem to have trended longer, and some have trended shorter, so checking to see what batch you're getting yours from can make sure you get the more unique shorter wavelength.

Hello Rivem,

Yeah, I saw that the boards were connected together, but none explained the actual location they need to be soldered too, which is confusing. They all seemed to be by the button switch.... :undecided:

I'll speak to Paul! :D

You should have several options for your connection point, but you'll have to check your individual board when you get it since it may be different.

Okay, will do. Regarding connecting the PCB board to the module driver board, can any glue be used? Tape?

You solder the wire or wires to the pcb board. How exactly you do it depends upon what you want to do and if you get a one hole or two hole version for led when on.

Is pretty simple two wire supply power to the driver and the pcb board is a simply momentary on/off switch that you put in the middle of one wire to connect it and disconnect it when pressed and has with several solder pads that you can wire to.

See: http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/help-pen-host-build-97204.html

with led see: http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/pen-build-laser66-host-ndb7242e-445nm-60mw-100087.html

there are several other laser66 pen build threads as well

Re: $190 GLP-473 1-2mW

A nonconducting two part epoxy is what you want. I have some that takes 24 hours to cure, but is as strong as steel when it does. There is another thread here today with a link to the 505nm diodes. These have the possibility of being below 505nm. That is preferable.

Okay :undecided:

Any epoxy you guys recommend? :)

-Alex

You don't need to epoxy the pcb board to the driver as in the Styro video where he made the simple one hole/no led version. Is simple and easy to do.

The led version is just another step---I don't see any need for an led to tell you it is on---output is there to tell you same thing--if you can't tell that it is on then... Maybe would be a good idea with IR beyond human vision/invisible wavelength diodes.

If uncertain about doing it just have someone build it for you --- Several might do it for free but even if charging can't imagine anyone would charge more than $10 or $20 to do.

Re: $190 GLP-473 1-2mW & $20 Z-Bolt 532 6mW *offers welcome*

I purchased myself a CNI GLP-532, so I've also put my 532 Z-Bolt on sale. Price is $20. Shipping is the same, $6.45.

Thank you all,

Hap, I'd like you to send me that Z-Bolt, but it's a pain to send to APO, AE in Iraq. Are you willing to do that?

Hello Alaskan,

I'd have no problem at all to send it to Iraq for you. Int'l shipping is quite pricey however. Are you willing to pay for that? It's $32.95 for Priority Int'l shipping!
