what heatsinks were people running with the ~150mw builds? If one would use active cooling couldn't the laser be pushed alot harder?

No one is actually expecting these to run at 150mW with any type of heatsink. Heatsinking is not really so much of a problem here. The AixiZ module itself is a heatsink already. A chunk of alluminum on it would slowly pull the heat out, but that wouldn't really help, since it is still not that much heat. The diode would die from other causes, or if it would die from heat, it would be internal heat, which no heatsink can pull away fast enough.

Heatsinks do not allow the use of higher currents only longer run time. Active cooling with a peltier might help a bit, but you still can not expect 150mW realistically.

In fact, i would not suggest going over 90mA if you want good diode life. Look at how the power output graph changes just after 90mA. The power starts increasing more slowly, and the heat starts increasing more.

If you wanted to get an obscenelly high power like 150mW you would probably have to kill 6-10 diodes, to find one capable of it, and even then you wouldn't really know how long it would live, no matter how good you would cool it.

thanks dude i'll keep that in mind and do a few experiments. Since the diodes are quite cheap nowadays so long life isn't priority in my experiments. I'm merely interested in "pushing the envelope" abit and see how far it can be pushed

Well if you push one to the point of blowing it, let us know what current it takes. I'd like to know how high they go.

no, the positive pin is the same but the negative is not the center one, it is the one on the left if you are looking at the back of the diode with the middle pin down. there is a picture of it on page 13 of this thread.

How do I track the package?

Who was it shipped by and where are you located? If it is from PSX Boy and you are in the US, he should have sent you a notice of shipment. In it he gave you the number you need. The number ended in CN or HK. I can't remember if PSXBoy is in Hong Kong or China.

Just go to USPS.com and plug that whole number into "tracking". It is tied to the USPS system.

Peace,
dave

Has anyone ordered the HD drives from geek in Canada? I opted for the least expensive shipping and am wondering how long it should take. Every time I pay for express, I get taxed at the boarder

I received the two 803t sleds I ordered from PSXboy today. Only five days to get here from China - I ordered on Monday. Shipping the sleds is more efficient than getting an entire drive, just two little boxes. And these are the correct sleds, with the high power diodes.

Also, I just got my new Meredith glass lens/housing/heatsink today. WOOHOO.

Now I just need to get one of those lavadrives and I'll be able to get it together.

I'm thinking of starting a new line of powerful BluRay pointers. The 'BOO ray' line. Heh, nobody steal my idea. It'll have a picture of Casper the ghost shining the laser at ya.

That's annoying, it's saying that there is no info. It was dispatched on the 8th.

Did you try plugging the number in on the Hongkong Post page?

http://app1.hongkongpost.com/CGI/mt/enquiry.jsp

As well as the United Kingdon - Registered page?

http://track.royalmail.com/portal/rm/track?catId=500185&mediaId=22700601&keyname=track_home

How about the United Kingdom - SpeedPost / Parcel page?

http://www.parcelforce.com/portal/p...ZQUHRAYUQ2K?catId=7500082&gear=authentication

Somebody has to know where it is!

Peace,
dave
