I thought 1 Watt 405nm was reach by someone with a diy build. But that was pretty special.

1 watt of 405 purple

It is indeed special Blord!

Hoo7h - handheld 405 lasers (using a 12X diode of course) generally average around 400-600mW but can be pushed up to 800mw, anything in this higher 600mw+ range is considered a high powered 405 IMO

The 405 diodes will burn much better than 445 as they are single mode and can focus their energy into a much smaller area.

Probably the most powerful Blue laser you can buy from a company is a 20000mW or higher laser system.

I wonder if you pointed that in the sky and strobe in sync with some loud woofers to make a alien Beacon... (Obviously very Dangerous and was not serious)

Awesome 400 watt CO2 laser (not blue):

Wouldn't it be nice to have one of those?

A beamsplitter DIY build is also good if u still want to keep a nicer beam profile and get about 1.2W easy.
If ur not caring how it looks like up close u can also do a 4 knife edge build and get ~2.4W 405 laser system

I've also noticed that 405nm lasers do seem to burn better than 445nm ones that are twice as powerful!

Beam size and the ability to focus are very important. I don't think I'd ever want to buy another laser that wasn't focusable.

I just wish 405nm beams were more visible!

My S06J running at 445mA outputting ~750mW burns nicely but nothing even close to the insane burn power I get off one of my 2W+ M140s. Both are using G1s and still the 445s burn far more. With my M140s I am able to get pin head dots at about 2 feet capable of burning cement and soldering with ease and I cannot say the same for my S06J with the same size or smaller dot.

BTW, sorry for the thread necro but the damage is done so I may as well put in my 2 cents XD

You are comparing 750mW to 2W...thats more than twice the power...get ur 445 at 1W and do the same 2 feet experiments...the blu-ray will be better due to being single-mode direct injection diode and have a smaller radius at focus, while the 445 will have a bigger focus point, and in this case, bigger enough for the intensity to be less (it depends on area=~radius squared).
if u consider a spot size of, lets say 100Ám for 405 and because of what i said ur 445 is 110Ám, u have around 21% more intensity at focus with the 405 than ur 445.

at those distances and with those power differences u cant compare much, for this diodes imho

I know that the larger dot size would result in less burning at the same power. My response was directed at:

I will do some testing with my 1W at super focus to compare burning once I get it finished for sure. With both diodes running through G1s the dot size is insanely small and I know its basic physics that the same power spread out over larger area would result in less intensity directly proportional to the increased area. You also have to take into account the absorption amounts likely being different for each of two lasers due to them having different wavelengths if you wanted to do a super technical burn comparison. Also, my S06J achieves a significantly smaller dot than then the M140 even at its best focus by a significant amount. I think its simply the amount that you are burning at a given time being larger with the 445 resulting in more spectacular burns. It could quite possibly be the same amount of energy per area due to dot sizes but one is burning 2-3x as much at once so it looks better.

I think Mojo should look into grabbing a G1 and watching the crazy burns you can achieve with those on a 445nm@2W+ :P

I'm actually looking to using my lasers combined with bits of solder to make some really cool blast/burn/damage effects for my friends Warhammer pieces

405nm burns better than 445nm also because the photons with that wavelength (405nm) are able to disturb covalent bonds between the molecules better than those with 445nm.

For instance if both 445 and 405 are equally focused 405 burns white paper, 445nm takes much longer to do it.

That is quite interesting to know. I figured the wavelength difference would have slight differences in the actual burn physics but that's quite cool.

BTW, your S06J is running at 745mA?! Isn't that a little over the top high for them? I was under the impression that 500mA is about the highest you want to push them without cutting their life so almost nothing. How much run time has yours seen so far?
