What goggles would you trust your eyes with around an 8x?

Got a question: I am getting close to casting a host for a 8X build I am working on, and I'm wondering what goggles look nice, and would suitably protect my eyes. There are so many posts for goggles kicking around, that it makes it rather difficult to sift through and find specific info. Looking for goggles that I can use while staring at a dot focused for burning. I'm hoping something is in the $40 ballpark is available out there, but I am more then willing to spend much more if I have to.

Curious, what goggles do those of you who already have 8x builds use?

Anyways, thanks in advance for the time spent reading and replying.

I use the ML-7 model from OEM LASER SYSTEMS, $156.00 shipped, but they cover a wide range of wavelengths, including IR....... rob

Some crappy blu ray goggles will work for "just staring at the dot", hell use sunglasses. But if you want it to block a reflection/ refraction/ direct hit of the laser you will probably have to spend more than $40.

Or you could just buy 4 pairs of some $10 safety glasses and cut out the lenses from three of the pairs and glue them to the lenses of the fourth pair, that might do somethin

lol fair enough. so I am looking at 100+ then =/ I've found many green and red goggles for $40 or so. I was hoping for a nice BR solution in that price range. However I do value my eyes much more then $40.

Talk to scopeguy20... he sells BR goggles and IMO they are great! I have got reflected shots straight in the eyes with these goggles with 150mw+ and they really did the trick. If you want some thing with more safety.. look around for goggles with OD of like 5++.

Good luck! All the best! -Adrian

I would like to have the best possible protection, but no protection is completely fail and fool proof, so think carefully about your laser use. Is the place and the set-up safe? The planned use can be done safer with a thoughtful approach and good goggles. I will try some tests when I get my 8X, but I do think the BR goggles would not suffice for a focused direct hit with 450 +/- 50 mW, and what we should have is < 5 mW after the goggles. -Glenn

scopeguy's googles are fine for any available bluray:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/yellow-goggles-blu-ray-blocking-43262.html

they would block a direct hit. they will melt, after several seconds direct hit, as would *any* plastic googles do, at such powerlevels (500mw). thats not what they are meant to do. they should block a short, accidental hit in your face. for that, you dont need more than glenn's googles. if you want googles which filter more than just 405nm, you should go for OEM's googles. i have both, for that reason.
