My second 20mW 405nm laser came, and I was really suprised. The beam was visible in daytime, and it burned a hole in my wallet, lit a match, and is so bright you can't look at the dot. Now I'm afraid to use it. My friend has a USB laserbee, so I went over to his house, and it clocked at 82mW. Wtf? I paid $18 and got a 80mW laser. Should I return it?

A 405nm laser visible in daytime!?!? Were you maybe smoking something at the time? (I mean that both as a joking insult and a serious question.)

The reason I ask is that I find 150mW of 405nm to be hard to see in the dark. Daytime it is absolutely impossible unless you have really poor lighting and a lot of particulates in the air.

If you're doing burning experiments I assume you're wearing goggles...

Certainly 80mW+ is not something to be careless with, but it's not too big a deal either, just have to be careful. If you don't feel comfortable with it, that's ok too. Put it up in the B/S/T section for $30 shipped along with pictures and LPM reading from your friend and it will be gone quickly.

My room was lit only by a desk lamp, but it was still bright. The bean was visible, but nothing compared to my 50mW green. I only noticed it after a while. I was wearing sunglasses, as I don't have any goggles as of yet. I dot want to sell it, I just have to wait until I get some goggles

My 20mW (32mW in reality) I can see the beam clear as day at night, so idk.

... and it burned a hole in my wallet ...
I've only been into this hobby for a couple of months, resulting in the purchase of 4 lasers (2x Class 3A, 2x Class 3B, and other laser-related things), and it is burning a hole in my wallet too.

Pretty sure most of those lasers use PHR diodes. They can easily push 100mW. I have a violet with an oval beam, which is usually a 6X diode, and can be pushed to ~170mW.

I have great beam shots from my 120mW PHR in full daylight, in my kitchen. You have to know the environment. Its completely possible to see the beam in daylight with the right conditions. Smoke, dander, dusk, pollen, ect will contribute to its brightness. Also some see 405nm better than others. There are too many variables to say he is BSing.

My camera is screwed at the moment, but I'll see if I can get some beam shots of the 405nm. We do have a high pollen alert here, but I dont think that anything to do with the laser beam. The beam at night time isn't violet, more of a white color.

I have half a mind to return it, because I don't have the proper eye protection :/

I'm up so early cuz I'm fasting, so, y'know.

What? It really is, it's a whitish color with a hint of pruple in there. You can see particles hit the beam and bright up.

What do you mean I had you?

EDIT: wtf? Negative rep? The beam isn't really purple, it's not for my 80 or 20.
Just my observation, honestly, no "Bullchit"

You know what? Im going to drop it this time. I guess it's pointless arguing with such close minded individuals.

Btw, you still never answered the question.
