Hi,

i have bought this 500mW-LD (haha) from ebay half year ago.
ebay has closed this offer (dont ask me why :can:)

at 200mA i get ~180mW with a G-2 lens. It is a 3,8mm LD. It this Diode known ?
How much REAL power can i expect ?

Greetings

oh .. sorry, forgotten.. 405nm
the pin is okay ;-) I can solder SMD in the size of bacteria :D

BDR-209 is my guess - I'd set it to ~7-800mW if it were me, but they can generally go a little higher.

You'll need those skills haha - I actually prefer SMD soldering to attaching wires to pins that size/length... :p

I would cringe at soldering that pin to a wire lol. Those diodes are very unforgiving when heat is applied! Glad your well versed in soldering.. I wish my hand would stay steady enough to solder SMD like I use to!

I think those dot patterns are similar to BDR-209 maybe in same family?

Not sure but some BDR-209 have a X over dot pattern it seems.

Possibly a 12x bdr-206? I can't seem to find the specs but I couldve sworn it was rated at or close to 500mw

Fair point, those are also 3.8mm, although I can't find any pictures of them to match the code with (or see if it's even there...)

Perhaps DTR will chime in? :p

hmmm ... the price was $16 .. i doubt, this is a BDR-206 ( i cant belive) ... the chinese sellers are not stupid ;-)

to theme soldering: no pin is to short ... THIS Diode pin is large enough :na: :

You can get BDR 206s online for around $15-25 depending on if your buying the sled or not. I have purchased multiple BDR 209 sleds and some extracted diodes for under $24 online. Selling 206s for under $20 sounds about right actually since the bigger brother (209) is in more of a demand.

hmmmm ... can anyone take a photo from the BDR Diodes back side ?

I took pics of (3) different 209s, apologize about the link, I can't seem to find out how to properly resize once in a post.

I took a look at another (3), besides the ones in photos, that I have and all have a O above the barcode. I did purchase the ones I checked out around the same 6 month period.

This last one is one that was murdered, as the press marks on the back show :yabbem:

Hi ,
If you have a PSU you can test it through the amp range and see were it starts to drop back. This could determine if its a 12x or 16x BDR Blu Ray. As Cali said it is very possible to get them at the price you paid. Second the 12X is more forgiving than the 16x in terms of pushing it to the hilt. So if you don't remember what diode it is test it for reassurance this way you won't kill it. If you build a pen you will need the case pin to run it to the Neg- on the driver and a spring on the Pos+ of the driver. Other wise don't worry about the case pin..and build it into a regular build..

Even though the 209 marks that 94z and I posted doesn't match. It doesn't mean that you dont have a BDR 206. There aren't too many 3.8mm 500mw rated diodes, especially if it was purchased in the last year.

I agree with Rich as far as testing the diode, do you have a bench PSU? Just gotta be careful with the 3.8mm 405s as the line between a healthy diode and an LEDd diode is very thin, well at least at the powers we like to operate them with
