^ I will tear it apart and measure the output current.... right after it dies!  [smiley=evil.gif]
Until then I will enjoy its power. ;D

ColdStl;

If the DDL circuit uses a #317 current regulator, you can check the current with the tailcap off.

Just set the multimeter for 10 amps and check the current with the meter.

The #317 just drops the voltage to the constant current setting.

With an efficient lens, it is possible to get ~150 mw out a very efficient PHR at 125 ma.

Thanks for the info, Larry.

It does utilize a 317 regulator, so I will try measuring the current that way. I did forget to mention there is no pot on the driver and I'm running it off of 3 10440's. I don't know if that is relevant or not, I'm just happy the diode has lasted as long as it has.

Thanks for this topic. I'm planning on buying a blu-ray laser and this cleared up a lot of things for me.

7) *The eye has trouble seeing 405nm light. *405nm is "Near Ultra Violet" light. *Blu-ray lasers are at the very edge of our eye's ability to see. *Older people have more trouble and glasses with UV coatings filter it. *Your eyes will get tired quickly when you first start using the blu-ray and the beam and dot may look "strange" to you. *If you have read about IgorT's experiences you will have a better understanding...

Well I haven't had the pleasure of reading about Igor's experiences but I was caught off guard when a few people were surprised that I noted the 6X diode's rectangular "splash", even with a standard AixiZ acrylic lens.

Below, the reflections of a 6X with acrylic (L) and one with JayRob's 405-G-1 (R). Note that they are pretty much the same pattern...

**UPDATED 2/21/09**

As I was writing a note to someone who bought a laser from me, I realized that I was "teaching" him about the eccentricities of 405nm laser light. *I thought that it would be a good thing to collect these thoughts here. *I will start. *Please add your knowledge to this

1) It is not blue. *It is violet. *The misunderstanding comes from the "marketing" name Blu-Ray. *This name was developed by

Great post!!! Thanks for the inof. Very strange wavelength indeed. I saw my first bluray beam a few days ago. the first one I thought I had a bad diode or lens, the way it looks like it does at a distance. Then I noticed as I got closer to the place where the dot hit it became small again and the artifacts disapeared. Then I took some pictures, same thing. I see what you mean about tiring the eyes.

thanks again,

John

Edit: Ive been searching for a thread or post mentioned in the first post of this thread, "IgorT's experiences" is what I would like to read. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

thanks
