That should be pretty safe, yes. I conducted a lifetime test on PHRs but not on GGWs so I can't give you a current value capable of long life with the same confidence that I can on a PHR.

Another PHR has died.
This PHR died after 30 seconds on 125mA (LM317T regulator with 10ohm resistor)
Axiz housing was almost cold after 15 second that is max time of duty cycle.
I'm sick of buying PHR diodes that dies after 1 minute.

Going to buy better diode that won't die after few seconds.
Which diode should I buy? (GGW?)

It may be the driver zapping those diodes if you keep using the same one, sometimes they "go crazy" like that. :(

LM317T are really stable regulators.
They give constant current and voltage.
I've tested it with dummy load, there are no problems.

I don't see problems in driver.

I have one PHR that works over month with LM317T driver at 110mA.
But I had no luck with many other PHRs.

Problematic diodes I gather then? I've read it doesn't take much, I also killed one today :(

Yea those PHR diodes are not very consistent with each other. My first one died at 120ma but my second can take 185ma without a problem.

Yes, I have had varying results with PHR and GGW. I'm careful to discharge the capacitor and I like to keep the input voltage low to the DDL driver. This means that you wouldn't run as long per battery, but the more voltage the regulator has sometimes is a double edged sword.

If you set higher voltage only bad thing that you get is higher temperature but current and voltage stays the same.
I didn't notice anything bad with higher voltage.
