Re: PHR zilla!!! 333mW UPDATE!

are you using 405-G-1 (or similar) lens?
still, 333mW @ 165mA is VERY good!
maybe I'm gonna trash 10 bucks

Re: PHR zilla!!! 333mW UPDATE!

Yup, Im sure its PHR diode :) And I know the laserbee is calibrated, Glenn and I had the power results tested a few weeks back, his kenometer and daves LPM were seeing the same as my laserbee (within the norm give or take 5mW)
No, the host does not have a diode pocket, it is in an aixiz inside the host.
Lens is a rather un-efficient 405-g-1 lens, with an aixiz glass lens we have 270mW. With normal plastic aixiz we have ~255mW IIRC

Re: PHR zilla!!! 333mW UPDATE!

ive had a few do that i used to run em at 150 ma .so i bought these adjustable
rockstars that went up to 150 ma would crank em all the way up then check em
most were at 110-140 mw but i had a few go over 250-300 mw i was like wtf had to then turn em down to about 110 ma for 125 mw or so. and yea techjunkie got my last one like that i set it at 120 mw i think at 100 ma but if you crank it to 150ma it was like 260 mw

Rare, but man these are FUN! 364mW from a PHR is insane no matter what!

Yes sir. Still sitting in the box it came in. Man that was like almost a year ago. Time flies when you're having fun. I have my GGW set to 170mW, so I'm sure it will be around for a while.

I'm guessing you're using a special BR lens? That's absolutely insane, keep it alive.

Re: PHR zilla!!! 333mW UPDATE!

Freak laser diodes - explanation
It was once explained to me how it was that certian semiconductors, laser diodes being on the same subset are culled and tested. Typically the lasers cut from the center of the wafer after fabrication are the A grade units. Further out you go from the center the less efficient they get. It is probable in my mind that your diode, the beautiful 333mW unit was an A grade unit. I have found during the years I have done this using 100's of laser diodes and testing them first, the units which have the lowest threshold current are typically the most efficient diodes and lase better with lower current, sometimes for longer lifetimes.:can:
