Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

PS: Is it bad if one of your favorite things about building a laser is 'setting up' the diode? Taking off the PCB, taking out of the heatsink, placing in module. Is it weird that I LOVE those 3 steps? It's like...the only thing I'm good at with lasers :p

You cant be that retarded. Yeah, its bad. No one here likes doing that, we just do it because we are to stupid to buy lasers, so we build them.

you got that right Tj, and i like homemadesbetter you can combine things that you cant get from a laser dealer, if you see a cool flashlight you cn make it a laser. :)

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

I like doing it because it's the only thing that always goes right for me LOL. And yes, it was supposed to be funny. But I just like taking off the PCB and such because it makes the diode look good. And yes, that was bad soldering, I just did a crappy solder with an IR diode from a GGW, I just wanted something on there for pics. You know? I'm not that bad, but lately I can't do much better than that, I'm soldering with like 1/3 inch. The tip broke, and I haven't been able to get a new tip, but I can still solder 'well'. Better than I did when the tip wasn't broken :p
EDIT: I was testing the current with a multi-meter

So, you posted pictures of your build that weren't actually of your PHR build, just so you could post some pictures? Is that strictly the right thing to be doing? Doesn't that erode your credibility? Not sure I believe any of your photos now.

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

I didn't have the stuff to make the laser yet, those were pics of the host. I wanted to show pics OF THE HOST. The pic with driver and such, were to show how easy it all goes together. And if I'm not mistaken, it was an IR from a GGW and I kept it in there because it started producing actual red, dim, but it made red. And I like having things complete, I don't like having things half-built, so having a diode in there made me feel better about it. Sorry you can't believe me because I made a quick laser set-up. Forgive me...I guess?
And that was my PHR build, they weren't random pictures. If I showed you a pic of it half built, it'd look dumb. I wanted pics of the 3405 host set-up. I hope you understand...

I am very proud of myself when I rip the little pcb off the diode. I bought locking type scissor style tweezers for the job. My first attempt went horribly wrong with a giant solder blob from hell.
I like the building and figuring out where's best to place the parts also.:beer:

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

The title says, "PHR build! with a 3405 kit!". If that's what the title says then that's what should be posted. I understand keenness to post a thread with pictures but better to wait until you can post the genuine pictures. Half built is fine; Lying with fake pictures is what makes your build look dumb.

For info, it's common for IR diodes from sleds to put out dim red light. They are often, (if not all), 780nm which can be seen as a dull rich, red. Just because you can see it as dim red doesn't mean it's not blindingly bright. I'd try viewing through your mobile phone to see how bright is really is. Of course you could've hooked up the LCC by mistake.

I didn't say they were not bloompyle's photos. I think they are, just not the ones they should've been.

And just to add to my previous post...

IR diodes from sleds sometimes have a red die in them too with 4 pins at the rear instead of the more usual 3. The PHR IR diode certainly does, (not sure about the GGW IR as the ones I have remain in their sleds). The red side is not that bright, (50mW or there abouts), but that certainly is red and not IR. The danger is, however, that both dies might accidentally be hooked up at the same time giving a red pointer that also outputs IR! To clarify: The red you are seeing is either; the red, reading laser side of the diode; the dull red or 780nm or; a mixture of both. The diode will not have changed its wavelength to allow you to see a different red. You should know this after 500 or so posts.

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

Woah WOAH! They ARE my pics, I didn't have a blu-ray to hook up yet. I was posting pics of the host, that module wasn't meant to make you think I had blu-ray on there. I just left the IR diode on there to show how simple and easy it is to put together. They ARE my pics, if you want, look closely at the background desk, and other clutter. It's the SAME stuff on all my toher pics, I'll even take a pic right now of my desk. You're not going to say ALL my pics now and in the future aren't mine are you? They are my pics, just those first two are pics of the host. Posting pics of an IR diode in a module doesn't look different than a PHR, so I figured I could post those early to get this thread started as I waited the other 2 hours for my package to arrive, just to show THE HOST.

Also, the IR was invisible first, then after a few uses it went red.

And before anybody points out that YES the unpacking pics come AFTER the beam shots (the time). I know this, that's because I had a tab on this topic and I set up the unpacking pics, then went to do something. Came back, then forgot all I did was press 'upload' then go. So I had to actually post them. I wish I could prove that I had it build, but all I have is a super dim PHR because it died. Right now I have an LOC in the host, and in...1-2 weeks I SHOULD have an SF-AW210 in there, and a GGW in a stainless steel CR2 host. And the LOC...well...I guess I'll just hold onto it.

This is extremely unlikely to be the diode changing. More likely an electrical issue. Check my last post regarding whether this is red or IR.

To be honest I dont think he has any credibility at all. I've read a lot of his posts, and there is misinformation, holes in stories, and contradictory comments. Some stories seem completely fabricated all together. :undecided:

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

I've been reading as well and I wish bloompyle would too. Reading more than typing.

With 500+ posts since April! that can give the impression of a reasonable amount of knowledge and that can lead to some poor guy doing the wrong thing if any advice is followed.

I can't see that any IR diode is going to shift wavelengths so far that it magically becomes fully visible. Shifting a few nm due to overheating or abuse I can believe but becoming a post op transwavelength diode and changing its name to red? I don't think so.

Re: PHR build! with a 3405 kit!

I didn't change it's name to red. It just has a faint red dot. It's gone now (I think), and it doesn't have red anymore (I use it to set the current on my driver, with a white cloth covering the diode).

And @TJ, find something by me that you think is false. There have only been 1-2 situations where I gave false information on complete accident, and I have thus apologized for them repeatedly. The one about the green laser I apologized like 5 times and explained it was bad info because he kept thanking me...

So, TJ, find something I posted that you think is fabricated. Because I have no reason to lie to all of you, and I haven't. But nice try...

EDIT: Just for the simplicity of it, TJ, just say everything you want to say to me now. Right here, in this thread. Its my thread, it's a dead thread, and quite frankly all I've gotten from this thread is doubtful replies, with the exception of TTERBO. So, everything you want to say to me, all the insults you want to say to me, all the degrading comments that you can muster. Say them now, just so I don't have to deal with your shit later down the road, just get them over with, right here, right now. Also, promiss that after this you will stop insulting me, stop bashing me, stop trying to degrade my character. Just get it all done and over with, right now.

Thank you.
