Last update for today: Linus is dead. Keyhole surgery sadly failed to remove the obstruction to his die, and he passed away in the late hours of this evening in his sleep. He will be missed,  :'(

Real last update: He's not dead but his ghost remains - when I reconnect, his die flashes violet for a fraction of a second. Inside, he is practically identical to a PHR, if I remember what they look like correctly. It's impossible to get a good shot of the die with the photography equipment I have available though. Pic is uploading to my site as I type - http://charlie.cheesebase.co.uk

Worst diode ever!!!
Just installed it, kept run times to less than a minute.
It ran for 5 min total at 180mA.      :'( :'(

I only have one more. I will try it out at 150mA.  :'(

SHIBA!!! This means that I just pretty much bought two PHR-equivalent diodes for $120? I won't make this mistake again .

Whenever you buy in the "first wave" you become part of the experiment.  If we have to drop below 180mW for these diodes to last, we will be back to the 4X range.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** HEY RYAN -- When you get the diodes (for the macro shots) compare the "bar code" to the PHR bar code.

Lol, and you could've bought a 4x from me for only $35 ::)
But Scopeguy20 has snatched it up...

And got a long closed can to boot, eh?

Nope, only the harvested diode...
I like long closed can diodes. There is something about them...
Maybe that unusual shape...

I didn't have enough to do that (and still don't) because I had already spent the $120 on the two SF-AW210 sleds... I wish I could've bought the diode... :(

Wait, what has a LCC diode in it? Is the one in the SF-AW210 any good?

The 4x sled has an LCC diode in it.
The red diode in the SF-AW210 isn't as good because it is a short die open can.

The red in the SF-AW210 sled is a short open can.  Probably a 16X-18X.  (300mA = 200mW)

The 4X and the 6X have a Long Closed Can red. They are good to 420mA (250mW). I have one pushed up to 500mA (305mW), but it really should be turned down to 480mA. 480mA is where the "knee" showed up.

Peace,

That's odd, mine definitely came with a long open-can diode, that looks identical to the LPC-815 burner!

Edit: With a second glance, the diode is slightly different: the SF-AW210 open can diode has a slight "rounding" to its end, and the base of the open space below the die has a very subtly different groove to it, compared to an LPC-815 LOC diode. Length-wise, though, I believe it is identical.

Update on the secon diode.........DEAD AS WELL

It heated up with it running at 150mA and then the beam suddenly became deformed.......I tore it appart and noticed the the glass lense on the diode was loose. Long story short....My second diode is now dead............$120 down the drain

I broke one of my 3 diodes whilst taking it from the heatsink - did you accidentally break the window whilst doing this?

The die itself is shorter...
