Here are some photos on my new GGW 6X build designed for long operating cycles:
First is the step-machined heatsink.
Module pressed in w/thermal epoxy and machined Hi-Power lens assembly of course:

This is the grey finished product:

It is powered by one of my Panasonic #18650 2600mah batteries ...
An efficient boost driver preset @ 250ma ...
Hard anodized HA3 grey body w/cooling fins ...
Glo-in-the-dark o-ring for front bezel ...
Gold-plated battery spring .

Now to get the 8X done in the same host.

heh, when you say "An efficient boost driver preset @ 200ma" are you speaking of the flex drive? or do you know of another place to get a boost driver?

Mohrenberg;

I tried several boost drivers for this host.

For an off-the-shelf boost driver, this one from Rayfoss works well @ 180-200ma:

Rayfoss Boost Driver

I am playing with another design, that will go with this host more effectively.

That round Sandwich Shoppe driver looks like it would work very well (5.4 VDC max).

That driver from rayfoss says 50mA to 160mA... I'm guessing through trail and error you found out something different:undecided:.

I noticed that, but it also says that they are fixed current. Larry, did you ask them to set one for 200ma for you? Or did you replace the resistor with a pot when you got it? Do you happen to have the dimensions of the driver? I emailed her a week ago and I never got a reply.

That looks great BTW!

Great build! I love the host! Imagine what you could put in that with a copper heatsink...

On the webpage they have a resistor specified for 180 ma.

I changed it to a lower value, and it ran within limits @ 200ma.

The size of the board is designed to fit inside a Aixiz module (I'm guessing about 10 x 20mm).

P.S. I make the thermal epoxy with #800 aluminum oxide powder.

Thanks for the info Larry. I'm gonna try a couple of these drivers (still waiting for them to get back to me on combined shipping). I was thinking about soldering a really small POT to the driver, as I don't have any surface mount resistors laying around.
