New 6x BluRays

I recently completed two new 6x bluray lasers. One is a lab laser, the other is a handheld.

The lab laser is made in a section of aluminum extrusion with aluminum end plates. The diode is in a machined head with a brass lens nut. The lens is aixiz acrylic. Driver is an LM317, and is variable by a knob on the back panel. There is a power on LED and binding posts for power 9-12V. The output is variable from threshold to 175mW.

The handheld is made in a machined and clear anodized aluminum host. The body is 12-sided to give it a different look in the handgrip area. Again, no aixiz housing, the diode goes straight into my heatsink (I have a reamer for cutting the diode pocket) and the lens (aixiz acrylic) goes in a machined brass lens nut.
The driver is LM317, power is 3 x CR123 rechargeable. Laser is set at 175mW on my Lasercheck.

Yes, I machine the brass lens nuts myself. I like a lens nut with no wiggle to it.

Your hand-held would make a good hilt for a laser-sabre.

[highlight]A little off topic:[/highlight] What kind of lens do you use in your 2W 808 hand-held, and where did you get it? I want to build one myself using a 2W C-mount 808.

Did you make the housing for those lasers yourself. They look very professional (yet somehow homemade)!

lordoflasers - I used an aixiz glass lens in the 2W IR handheld.

pianoman2011 - Yes the housings are ones that I machined myself. The lab lasers look good made from aluminum extrusion offcuts. The handhelds are machined from aluminum bar stock, the lens nuts from brass.

jander6442 - For blurays I use an aixiz acrylic lens, for the IR burners I use most often an aixiz glass lens. I collect lenses out of anything I scrap that has them. Since I machine my own lens nuts, I can try out all sorts of different acrylic or glass lenses as I find them. The heatsink is the laser head, which press fits or setscrews to the laser body. All parts are machined by me.

billg519 sorry for the misdirect on the post, I found the detailed post in another area on the forum. Thank you. Josh
PS while were on the subject the cross section on the lens nut is acheived not to easy I'm sure. You should think about updating the
Aixiz modules to accept the diode thru screw backing plate instead of the "stamping in" we currently use. Just a thought
cause how many people ruin their diodes that way, instead of just insertion and the screw down. You'll make millions.
