New 405nm Diode - 9mm 1W Rated

Hi Everyone ,

So along with the GB I am doing .. I got some specs on a new 405nm diode.

It is rated at 1W an has a maximum rated current of 1.2A in the spec sheet.

It is made by OPNEXT.

I might be able to get some nice prices on these. Maybe even DTR will have them soon.

If you are up to it ... I can buy one and make a murder test. I should have the price of it tomorrow.

Post here if you are interested to check it. If the price is around $100 I will buy it my self.

I guess it will do around 1.5W ... Maybe a bit more. But who knows ... we might have a surprise :)

Unfortunately it is multimode like the other over 1W 405nm diodes. I wish a new single mode 1W actually rated diode would hit the market. I think being multimode kind of defeats the purpose of getting a 405nm. It is not a extremely visible wavelength but the single mode ones are incredible burners.

There were some of the 1.2W multimode Nichia 405's on ebay last year and don't think they generated much interest but if there is I would revisit carrying them or this one.

I knew one source that had them a while back. I will check and see if they can still get them.

The good thing with multimodes is however, that their wavelength goes up with current. So you will get possobly 415nm when overdriven, which is more than 2 times as bright as 405nm. Just my 2 cents. However, you do have the worse divergence

If you do get one I would be very interested in how the divergence is. That will be a big factor.

I was trying to find the thread over here but here were some that were going around a while back but if I remember correctly they were worse than the M140s for divergence.

Funny how 405 was one of the first, and yet not much progress has happened in the field of high power yet.

The diode was quoted me for 463 dollars for one from a source where many sellers go for diodes. I didn't know it was multimode though. Maybe it's a newer version?

Subscribed, i didnt even know there were multimode 405s, very keen to see the results
dont forget to test with the "g7" lens from Podo/Sanwu, they are a very interesting lens

Thats not true...Just because they are multimode does not guarantee a wavelength shift. Normal, single mode 405 diodes can easily hit 410-415 as is.
