I was thinking that it would be a cheap way to fix ps3's with broken blue ray drives to just replace the diode. In the slim model, (the version I want to try this on), it uses a 3 pin 405nm ~20mw diode. Is that something I could find cheaply? I don't really know anything about lasers, but if I got a 200mw laser, or something significantly higher than 20mw, do you think that would work? Is this a plausible concept?
