So, today A couple components I ordered for my labbie came (I'm still working on that), but I also ordered a couple of project boxes (I think this one is from serpac or something) and I decided it would be perfect to use for a handheld host! So I got out some stuff, and I put this together. It runs off a 9V,and the keyswitch can choose between one of two connections, which means that in the future I could also add a red module and have it be select-color. I am using Matthew's 100mW complete module, and a toggle switch I got from radioshack. I barely got everything to fit inside, so if I am to add another module I might have to do some re-arranging. If anyone is interested I can post pics of the internals too.

PS:sorry these pics are so bad, I'm using my webcam, and it's terrible quality and flips all the pictures around.

Very nice job! I'd like to see the internals, myself. How long did it take you to complete this?

honestly not very long... probably less than 1 or 2 hours. But the case was really easy to use, it's made of this decent plastic that is easy to drill but won't break. I'm supposed to be studying right now, so I can't take any internals pics or the parents will bust me, but I'll upload some tomorrow. It's really not that complex inside, but it has the potential to be...lol

Very nice Will. Looks like burner!!! You should get some crazy decals. Like a skull and cross bones, or radiation triangle

Nice, not very long at all.

Hahaha, I know what you mean. I have three more finals this week and I should be studying right now.

English and bio tomorrow... crap. I guess those are the easy ones though. History will kill me.

Sweet laser!!!
how much did all this cost you? Just wondering.

The module cost me $20 on sale, the casing was like 8 bucks, the toggle switch about $4, and the keyswitch about $15.
So about $47+shipping, but it would cost more for the module right now, i don't think it's on sale any more. My guess is that you could get it for less than $30 if you ordered parts in bulk, but really this thing would be best as a 2 or 3 color handheld. That would be nice, a 3 color burning laser for >$100.

Id by it!!!!

haha who knows, maybe I'll make these. Also, have some pics. As you can see, I'll have to move some things around to fit 2 modules. I'm thinking about moving the keyswitch to the same side as the toggle, that way I can fit a 9v in the back, and maybe add an indicator LED or something. The internal pics show what I mean when I say I want to move stuff around. The switch is SPDT to be precise, that's what I mean when I say "select color", and if I wanted to have 3 colors I could go with a key on/toggle switch color deal, where you just use the toggle switches to do colors on/off, and then you could run all at the same time with a good battery. The two laser images look different because one is with a flash, one without. To your eyes it looks somewhere in between the two photos. The photos were taken in snowy daylight (bright white) with the lights on. The second laser is a waterproof 200mW from o-like, and the pen is a ebayser I got a long time ago and pot modded. It's almost dead. Anyway, I think the next step is to save up for a bit and get a 250mW red and revise the power source.

remade it, put everything on 1 side so there is lots of free room and added an LED.
