Default Re: My new blue 5w laser

Judging by the host it uses and the burning capability, I would say the output would be around 2w, no more than 3W.

Agreed, no more than 2.5W. Stick with trusted brands like Sanyo etc.

A 5W laser will cost you about double that or more, I am guessing that laser has a M140 diode or maybe a a PLTB450B, this would put its max power at about 2W. Still though it does look like a good laser and at a fair price.

How much current does it actually draw from the batteries?

This is no guarantee but can be an indication on what laser diode is in there and how hard it's being driven.
