So here is my first bluray pointer. It uses a cheap flashlight host bought in the local electronics store, a flexdrive @120mA or so directly soldered to the laser diode which sits in a sureelectronics module. The pointer can be powered from 3 AAA cells.
I really like this color and the flourescence effects it does on nearly everything. In the picture I used an uranium glass marble.

The second picture shows the inside of the pointer head, with the driver directly soldered to the diode and embedded in a teflon spacer. Doing it like this a still had enough space for the original battery case.
Unfortunately my camera makes no nice closeup pictures so its a bit blurry.
BTW is it possible to put 2 pictures in 1 post?

Did you make your own heatsink?
Yes, just bought some 25mm aluminium rod drilled a 12mm hole in it and sawed a 1cm piece from it. In the 1st picture you can see the marble resting on another one

Hey, nice job - looks really good :) So what kind of o/p power do you guesstimate it puts out?

I measured it to be 110mW at 120mA Current. Actually I am not sure the diode will survive this very long ::) These diode is not the PHR or 6x diode which can be bought here in the forum, I got it from somebody at the alt.lasers newsgroup. I still have not measured its current-power curve.

Well, I imagine your second BR will be based on a local 6x, hehe...

Wow thats a pretty laser. Good job.

Just wondering, how much do the metal rods cost at a hardware store cost?

Thanks!
The rods are really cheap, arround 10 Euro for half a meter with diameter 25mm. Some time ago a bought a box of alu rods of all sizes for some ten euros ebay, watch out for something like this. You can get enough material for a hundred heatsinks really cheap.
