I put my laser together correctly (used a complete module), but it won't fire up. I noticed that when I have all 3 of my charged 10440's in the stock MXDL holder, my multimeter either reads zero, or someones the voltage of only ONE battery. I checked each batteries voltages, and they are within specs. However when I test the holder with the batteries in - NADA.

Any input?

I would suggest touching your multimeter to your lead wires from the flashlight and see if you get any voltage

Shave the plastic off of the tops and bottoms of the batteries with a razor blade. I had the same problem and that fixed it even though it looked like they were all making contact.

Also, sometimes, there are small "tabs" of plastic in the carriage that keep the batteries from making contact with the metal. You will have to break them off.

Peace,
dave

I had a similar battery holder laying around so I used that. I just had to solder a spring on the positive end. Works great!

However I am having trouble focusing the Aixis lens to burn.. It's threaded in all the way, but it's still not the focus I most likely need.

Yes, Dave is correct...

Here is what to look for:

I guess then you'd have to glue those pieces of metal in place?

You did not get the diode pressed all the way into the module head. It actually has to be recessed slightly. Take the silver focus ring off of the lens nut. It will screw in far enough then.

You can then either use it without the ring, sand down the focus ring so it is thinner, or "glue" the focus ring on with it only screwed on a couple of threads.

Peace,
dave

Wow, I don't know how I didn't see that the silver ring is threaded too. Works like a charm now, thanks everyone!

Now someone should recommend me some glasses!

If it is indeed a violet laser, send scopeguy20 a PM. I'm also expecting a pair from him!

I went ahead and cut off any tabs that potentially blocked contact. Still doesn't work. I think it's safe to say this holder has something going on within the plastic.

Did you shave the plastic off of the top and bottom of the batteries like I suggested?

P.S. Didn't you just inform us that it was working? What happened?

There's really no plastic to shave on the batteries or the holder itself. It works with a similar holder that I got from a Husky LED flashlight. I just had to solder a spring onto the positive end of the holder in order to make contact with the MXDL.
