Murder fund for 16x M-DISC burner? (BW-16D1HT)

There's some basis for thinking the diode is more powerful than the standard 16X BluRay diode.

The BW-16D1HT is a 16x bluray burner with M-Disc burning capability.

If there's interest, we could do a real murder fund (max output to death).

Scale can be difficult to identify from photos. What you're looking at is a 5.6mm diode in a fairly standard heatsink. The heatsink was fairly similar to those I've encountered in other sleds, and it was easily removed from the sled. The heatsink itself was also relatively easy to open.

Now for the important part.... the testing. Testing was conducted with a G9 lens.....

In short, this seems like a relatively standard 12x/16x diode. 955 mW is not too shabby, but it's also clearly not an improvement on the diodes we already have access to. It's also interesting to note that there was a clear "kink" here. It wasn't a long lasting kink like we see on multi-modes, but it also wasn't the immediate LED'ing that we used to see on ultra sensitive 405s.

However, on the whole, there's nothing to write home about here The 16x diode DTR currently sells is still the best option out there.

Edit: You edited the post to another burner, not the 12X LG manufactured one you posted about earlier with the same questions. The above applied to that burner, I don't know if it does for the 16X model you just changed the post to be about.

Also, the above applies to DVD MDISC burning. There is now BLURAY MDISC burning, which is what the 16x bluray drive I posted is.

Is $10USD going to be the standard input? ill chip in 10USD for this drive, does it have to die poor lil fella

Ya, I think so. Otherwise what happens is that some of our generous members may chip in larger portions. That's always very kind, but I think there's also something cool about the idea of equal contribution amounts, so that everyone knows their contribution was important.

Isn't this the Bluray Mdisk burner you had originally started this thread about?

The 16X would probably be higher power than the 12X with that multi-burner. Good luck with your project looking forward to the murder, if it must be done.

Probably not. I have to recalibrate (physically) my spectro to test the 405 range, and that's a several hour process. Nothing strange has ever really shown up down there, so I'm not sure of the value of knowing whether it's 403, or 408, etc. Plus, testing two things at once is more challenging, so I'm going to focus on power.

So how does this work exactly? Do you get a bunch of the drives and extract the diodes and send them out? I will grab 2 tho happy to send the money now if you wish

Lol, nope.

When we get the target amount of money pledged, and the murder fund is full, everyone sends their money, I order one drive, it arrives, I extract the diode, and then the diode gets tested at successively higher currents while output power is metered on an Ophir, to the point of death.

That's it.

PS - it's a murder fund, not a group buy.
