Are the black Pocket Mini innards compatible with the Chrome Pocket Mini innards?
What about the heatsink?

Can I just unscrew the pill from my pocket mini and screw it into the chrome one?

Oh nice, how long have you had the CR123 version?  I guess you already knew what you were in for when I told you about this host then.  :)

I knew the finish was awesome, but I didnt realize how weighty the tiny host would be! Also, the little mini tail button is cool! :cool:

Peng, I'll send you a PM about a kit...

Spyder, yes they would be interchangealbe. I did not do it, because my chrome Pocket mini style host is a good flashlight that I kept, but the threads are the same. And I am sure it will work.

At least with the one I have the threads are the same!

I say that, because I have seen different threading on MXDL hosts of the same model. That said, I'm pretty sure these UltraFire hosts will be the same threads from one to the next...

I have to say JayRob is definately the man. I ordered the MXDL heatsink and host on Thursday afternoon-had it by Saturday morning and his kits are to die for. I know I want one!!!!!!

I'd be happy to set you up with one of these tiny kits if you don't mind paying for the host in advance and waiting for the shipping from DX!

Just PM me...

Looking good Jay!  Glad you like the host, I figured it was right up your alley due to micro-like size and heavy brass feel.  :)  And boy, it looks like it is just about the same diameter as your keychain host, maybe thinner?

As for the pictures, they just don't do this host justice, I don't think any pictures would.  ;D  It is so much better looking in person. The knurling (right word?) and overall features on this light are very nice, even has a option to thread some rubber into the 3 grooves on the side like the Kryton barrels.  For a relatively cheap flashlight from DX, the quality is amazing, especially the chrome finish and heavy feel.  It definitely will make once fancy laser, that's for sure.   Oh, and just like the keychain mod, the host itself acts as the heatsink right? How well do you think that will work as far as proper heatsinking is concerned?
I like the light so much that I couldn't resist buying the CR123 version of this a few days ago.  Same look and build, just slightly wider (but shorter) and probably heavier!

BTW, have you tried it with rubber inserts?  I'm just wondering what it would look like or if the rubber would actually stay put.

Just a littly larger in diameter than the Key Chain host. 15.4mm vs 14.7mm...

As far as heatsinking, it should work very well, because the host itself is in effect the heatsink, and it is a nice thick brass! :)

Got the FlexDrive and finished the build...

Updated the first post with the pictures of the installation of the FlexDrive. VERY tight build!

Here are the results of the lens comparison:

micro10.jpg

I have the 6X diode set at 186mA's...

* AixiZ acrylic lens - 175mW's
* 405-G-1 glass lens - 224mW's! :eek:

In this build, I got a 28% increase in power with the 405-G-1 lens vs AixiZ acrylic! :cool:

Nicely done Jay! That is seriously one tight fit, makes you wonder if we have almost reached a limit with how small the builds can be. Even when the boost drivers get smaller, the AixiZ heads will still take up a decent amount of room. If anything, we have reached the limit in diameter due to the AixiZ heads. I think your keychain build and this will be the smallest builds for quite a while. :)

And geez, 28%. Nice! Quick question, do you think these lenses perform better or worse than what Igort is doing a GB for?

Ahh but there ARE other modules other than Aixiz.  I've got a slew of modules that are only 8mm in diameter and unlike the aixiz which is 12mm. Jay even has one for hisself. :D (sent one to him frees)

Can't say...

I've messaged Igor to check out this lens and compare, but he has not got back to me. I would think it would be the same as his best lens. But the only way to know for sure is to have both lenses to compare on the same build.

I think the cost factor will come into play as well. But I plan on getting some of Igor's lenses as well.

I wish he would respond, because he is the one who has tried like 8 different glass lenses. I would like his opinion on one of these.

LarryDFW has some interesting information about the lens comparison here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1236386077/32#38

But we still need to do a direct comparison...

I haven't even checked that out yet Ken...

Does that tiny thing fit a 5.6mm diode?
