I've gotten to thinking and came up with what I thought was a pretty decent idea. I wanted to compile a list of product numbers of devices containing 405nm diodes, the power range of the diodes, and the price range. Here is the list so far:

Name === Output (mW) === Type === Condition and Price

KES-400A === 1-10 mW === Sleds === New - $20-30, Salvaged - $15, 5-6 Salv. – ($20-50)

SF-AD112 === 35-40 mW === Sleds === New - $15

DT-0811 === 40-100 mW === Sleds, Diodes === New - $20-40

PHR-803T === 80-130 mW === Sleds, Diodes === New - $10-25

GBW-H10N (4x) === 120-180 mW === Disk Drives, Sleds === Drive - $250-350, Sled - $45

GGW-H20L (6x) === 180-240 mW === Disk Drives, Sleds *Rare* === Drive - $200-300, Sled - $50-80

BDR-203 (8x) === 300-400 mW === Disk Drives === New - $200-350

That's about it for now. But it doesn't have to be :):

Everybody, if you see a possible sled/drive/diode/etc. missing or any incorrect information on my list, please add you input so we can perfect this list! The list above will be updated each time I get some new information.

If we get a fairly complete list, it would be a good reference for 405nm diode purchasers/experimenters, no matter if they're violet-laser virgins or big-league Blu-Rayers (yeah, I know that was pretty cheesy).

Plus... I would love to know a bit more myself ;).

Thanks for the help!

There is a new diode and sled, the SF-AW210 that jake, drew and I am getting some samples of. I'll PM you when I get them (and your order of PHRs, it's from the same supplier and in the same package!) More details to come in the next days and weeks.

Oh, and there's also the DT0811, which came in the newer xBox drives, running at slightly lower power than the PHR - up to 80mW if I am not mistaken.

Also commonly available and inexpensive, there is the DT0811 Xbox 360 Sled. Better than a KES. I think its good for about 50mW. But I know some people have gotten 80mW or more. Of course, I think the average PHR is only good for about 100mW. For reasonable lifespan.

EDIT .....Oh, yeah I want a SF-AW210 too..........

There's also the SF-AD112 -- 65mA = 35-40mW

And of course the new 8X (Pioneer BDR-203) tentative estimate (only one tested) 365mA = 400mW

Nice, Charlie! Be sure to post the findings on the SF-AW210 as soon as you get it! Though the Chinese claim that it's stronger than a 6x, I doubt it's going to be as strong as a PHR. But I'll keep my fingers crossed! Around how much are the SF-AW210's priced for?

And thanks, I forgot about the DT0811.

Thanks for giving me the stats on the DT-0811. I always wondered how strong they were. But I KNOW that the PHR is stronger than that. At least 120mW max. Example: Some guy had a freak PHR diode and ran in near 200mW!!!

Thanks Dave! I had never even heard of the SF-AD112! Doesn't sound that strong but how much to they tend to cost?

And boy would I like an 8X diode! 400mW for a 405nm LD is ethereal, out-of-this-world, godly, and many other adjectives that I can't think of... I would like to get my hands on one of those!

The SF-AD112 came out of an HD DVD reader.  You'll find them occasionally on eBay for around $15 The Chinese dealers had/have them too. They tried to foist them off on us a couple of months ago saying that they were 12X burners! Did I mention that Chinese dealers lie?

Getting an 8X is easy:

Oooooh... so the cheapest one for now is around $200. Looks like I need to make a bit of money... and thats after I'm about to purchase six PHR's for $55 and a +26% 405nm Aixiz lens for $60.

About the 12X burners, (which I hope will soon be released to the public for a reasonable price) I read your story ;D. Not a 12X Blu-Ray burner but a 12X DVD burner ;D That really sucks!

But hey you can't really say that Chinese dealers lie... they just don't tell the whole truth. :-?

Just to note H10N sleds aren't that rare, just that there's little advantage of these over PHRs, and cost considerably more, so nobody really buys them anyway.

Haha thats a great idea... since the diode doesn't even fit into an Aixiz module!!!!!!!!! I'm slightly disappointed about that but I am sure that somebody will create an adapter and save the day...

It is a standard 5.6mm diode. It fits just fine in an AixiZ. I just finished building one into an MXDL "Chicken Leg."

With a Jayrob heat sink.

It is the definition of a "beast."

Weird... I would've sworn that I read your forum about the BDR-203 and that you said the 405nm diode inside was powerful (like 400mW) but also like 3mm or something smaller than a normal 5.6mm diode.

And I see your picture of the 512mW 405nm laser!!! Impressive!!!!!! It is a beast. And nice housing also. You ever plan on selling them?

Ahhhh . . I see what you did

The RED laser diode in the sled is 3.8mm.

I've got over $450 in parts alone in this laser. If I got a $900 offer, I would consider selling it ;)

Peace,
dave
