Hey guys just following up. Since having LPM'd my LEDShoppe in the 20mW area I decided to try and do a very sloppy pot mod to it:

405nm-pot-access.jpg

In the process of doing the above-pictures hacksaw (it's beautiful, I know), I managed to short the copper casing against something on or near the POT and killed it instantly.

So I ordered two more, hoping that I would successfully mod one them. I'm pleased to announce that I have two LEDShoppe 50mW 405mW pointers that are both averaging in the mid 50s.

Another failed attempt at pot modding.....For $45 you could of gotten a 100mw laser module.

fyi, I already had a GGW-H20L on it's way at the time (now waiting to get built).

The under-spec LEDShoppe was completely expendable and hence the attempt.

Enjoy the pic for what it's worth but lets not paint a picture of someone trying to half-hazardly save a buck. After all these were measured on a brand new laser power meter.

As a matter of fact it'll be just like your 175mW - 6x pocket mini deal assuming I don't short something else :)

There is zero point in pot modding these. If your not happy with the output, pawn it off on a friend for $10 and buy another one heh.

And keithnyc.. 532 doesn't make stuff fluoresce like 405 does though. Green will always be green, but 405 can be anything from green to deep purple depending on what it's pointed at. ;)

Plus everybody and their mothers have green pointers now days.

Qume: Agreed...I hear you. :beer:I think for the next club night, I'm breaking out the purple. Plus I understand that Club Pacha has a lot of smoke and reflective crap all over the place, so I'm sure it'll be a hit. Thanks

does the OP and the second poster work for ledshoppe?

It is possible, at least they sound like it.
Just FYI. These exact same pointers can be had off ebay for $10ish. I have two on my desk now. one is 42mw and the other is 46mw. Only difference is the ebay ones are advertised as 5mw. Not 50mw.

Good advice, I took it a while ago.
I do not have a LPM but have measured the "tailcap"* current to 230mA, which is consistent with 40-50mW.

*A bit awkward on this model of pointer.
