Introducing "STINGRAY II" *my new DIY series.

well, not so new since I was working and showing this host since May, but now I can actually say its ready for store display.
Its been a slow ride, unlike my first generation of 405nm lasers, but this time I had no pressure to build as many as I can in order to make it through the end of the month. I am very happy and thankful I got new job, and I can just sit back and build these slowly and with joy, and take care of details more.

Anyhow, I developed 3 mods for this host (A, B, and C) which differ mainly in heat sink arrangement, and efficiency. I will be selling only the B version here as it is the best and most efficient. A, and C are very good too, but not best, and I will offer them only on ebay, and people who don't care as much.

Many of you can recognize the chassy (host). Its one of Superfire series models. There are at least 3 different but similar looking hosts though, so some are better for heat sink adaptation than others, and some are uglier too :) I picked it because of front end that reminded me of Stingrays, and it looked cool. It also has plenty of space inside for good heat sinks and or electronics for future upgrades.

Driver board is all homemade as my deal with BlueFusion went nowhere. That’s another reason for this late release. I got pissed and started cutting and soldering J. It’s a simple LM317T based voltage/current controller, with ceramic capacitor and diode to protect laser diode, and a pot for controlling the "juice".

Recent HIGH POWERED Stingrays with 6x diodes have Flex drive V4 installed as well as slightly nicer front shell. 225mW 405nm and 335mW 658nm available with high quality coated lenses!

Heat sink in B and C versions is also home made on my dads lathe. Him and I made a bunch this summer when I went home to visit. Its brass and aluminum (stuff we had handy). Fits perfectly in B version to transfer heat outside black shell.

Model A ( NOT USED ANY MORE- only in first few prototypes) has reversed light bulb reflector in modified to fit aixiz module. Its slightly inferior in heat transfer to outside black cover.

It uses two RCR123 recharegable batteries. They will be included along with charger for sale.

They will come in 405nm and 658nm version and will be listed in buy sell trade forum soon.

Let me know what you think, I'll post some photos now..

I love the look of this host.  I built one awhile back.  It is in the community and it is the "bronze" (?) colored version.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** BTW, very nice design of the diode/driver module

Thanks dave. I remember your gold host similar looking to this. It is indeed different though as far as front goes, and battery type I think.
This is Superfire model and there are few models of this type that vary in front shell. Some of them are much better than others as far as heat sink goes.

Re: Introducing my new "STINGRAY II" diy series.

here are some shots so you see inside. No secrets :) (Jake21, stay away from copycating for pure profit ..:) This heat sink is made to fit outside shell perfectly, and i check for contact between the two by applying Arctic Silver 5 in all contact surfaces. I use as much Arctic Sylver as needed to fill 0.1-0.2mm gaps if there are any.

model A with reversed light bulb reflector can be seen on second picture- Not used anymore, but it comes with host :)

V4 drive on the third picture, used for 6x diodes.

And
Outer shell inside look for tight fit over inner heat sink.

Wow! Looks like some pro work! I really like the package look with the conical nose-piece! The driver/module/heatsink is a nice bundle too.
