GGW-H20L (6X) vs. SF-AW210 (6X)

Sorry for reviving this old thread but I have a question. This diode was purchased from HighTechDealz as a GGW-H20L sled. Here's a picture of the back of the diode I extracted from that sled. Do you reckon it's got the correct markings for a GGW? I'm worried now that it may be an impostor...

That looks like the SF according to the big square bare code, has those short pins also... the harvester could have clipped them some what, but as a rule they have shorter pins I have noticed.

Maybe a batch of SF diodes passed a higher quality standard at the time?

Oh, I wonder if you'll get bashed for bringing a old thread around. I don't mind it's
all info to me yet there seems to be some that feel the need to minimod the "OLD"
thread issue.

That's what it looks to be- an SF-AW210. It doesn't have the distinctive green splotch either.

Also, this is a perfectly legitimate reason for bringing a thread back from the dead. It saves a new thread from being created.

Damn, I'm disappointed. I specifically purchased a GGW-H20L because of their robustness. I'm going to write to Kendall at HighTechDealz and ask him to explain it. Anyone else want to lend their experience to this? Dave, maybe?

EDIT: to jander, I harvested the diode from the sled and I didn't clip anything. The pins are short like that, factory. Yet more evidence.

I agree.

Also, "I agree" is not a legitimate reason for reviving an old thread, and usually also not a legitimate reason for making a post in a thread in the first place.

Jupiter and I reached an agreement after talking. I had seen one diode that performed poorly which I think didn't have the
barcode on the back at all. Out of 300 - 400 6x diodes I've seen only that
one with no barcode was bad. The rest of the sled was the exact same as
other 6x sleds.

edit: I just found the bad GGWH20L diode as I saved it, there is no barcode and it has red sharpie marks on it. Was the only one I've ever seen.

Nice doing business with you Kendall, thanks for your good service. Looking forward to getting the new diode and getting it running. I can see I'm going to have to invest in a LPM to really make proper comparisons...

Yeah, they're about $200. I have a Andover Holography LPM-1. Its useful for testing new diodes and builds. If you're just buying your first couple lasers it might not be worth the investment.

I just harvested this BR diode from a GGW sled ... it has a Red and a Violet splotch on the back. It doesn't seem to fit any description above ... any idea which diode this is?

I just got a diode out of a GGW-H20L sled that has the squair bar code with a green dot right on top of it :thinking:

Well I was harvesting GGW-H20L diodes this evening and guess what I found? -- the diode used in the SF-AW210 in a GGW-H20L sled!

Yes, I am sure. I double checked when I saw it. When I saw the square bar code the diode was still in the heat sink from the GGW sled.

We believe that the SF-AW210 is not quite as "tough" or as consistent as the GGW-H20L. When you are harvesting 6X diodes, you need to be mindful of which diode is coming out of the sled.
