G303 Laser 200mW 405nm - Real or fake ?

Hi !
I just bought on eBay a 200mW 405nm laser called "G303" (click me !).
Opened, it looks like this:

Here is the label:

As you can see, we don't see the beam:

(I tried in the dark, it's the same)
And it's focusable:

Do you think it's a real 200mw or a fake one ? :huh:

If it doesn't have a visible beam in the dark, it (probably) isn't 200mW. Could also be your eyes, but that chance is very slim.

usually those ebay lasers are a little within 100mW or so. your could be a little under or a little above who knows... hard to say from pics... but even if it looks dim be careful its still a powerful laser. my 100 mW 405 i can somewhat see the beam in the darkness, my avatar pic i took with my phone it made it a little brighter then it is, but can give u an idea maybe..

I searched a bit and I saw that 200mW lasers costs between 100$ and 200$ !
And mine costs 25$ !
Why ?

Because it's made out of lower quality, mass produced parts making each laser cheaper to produce. Also there is rarely any sort of quality control with those kind of lasers.

no a 200mW 405 laser dont cost as much as 200$ but i could be wrong..

If u want buy a 100mW then u can get one from laserbtb.com for 41$ very good deal, but they dont have 200mW u need to buy 400mW then which costs 108$ but thats a very good laser for money and the beam would be very visible even in darkness, u just cant get a decent high powered laser for less then 50$ , those on ebay are just crap really good lasers cost a bit but u will enjoy it a lot more.

The pics are HUGE. 800x600 is the limit I believe here. The label is correct. It is <200mW. Don't know what yours can do but it is likely 30-100mW.
Better to ask first and buy later if the output is important

Even with 40mw of 405nm you can burn if you find the right lens ( one with a short focal point will burn light colored stuff.) Heck even a magnifying glass will light a red tipped match. It's the best value for your money in terms of burning , but don't let the dimness fool you. It'll do the same to your eye , so careful.

As stated above , my experience with 301/303's has been relatively good... now while my experience only extends to the green ones, i think the blue ones are quite similar.

dude your pics are way to heavy.. I am on a 33inch screen and they are still to big. also don't believe all the stuff you see on ebay when it comes to leaser pointers. odds are you bought a way underspec 5mw laser. I have the exact same one as this and it doesn't even register on the LPM.

yeah lol u can right click the image and press show image it will shown a better cropped down instead, this forum should do that not sure why it doesnt usually it auto crops or something like that. guess it dont support that image size limit or something.

it looks like a low power laser. try focusing it and burning stuff, see how it does. i had a super cheap (30$) 405nm in a 301 or 303 host from lazerpoint.com (do not reccomend that place at all BTW) that was very good, and lasted for a good year or two before it broke. it burned like crazy and i was happy with it, but it was still another cheap piece of crap in the end. if you want a good high powered laser that will last a good long while, your gonna have to spend money, that's just how lasers are nowadays.

Remember that a lasers power cannot be determined only by the dot, especially not 405 as a dim looking dot can look harmless but actually be 500mW+! Pictures are even worse as cameras can distort the image and make it appear brighter/dimmer. Burning tests are good as they can give you a ballpark figure at what's your dealing with but as said before, LPM's are the way to go if you want accurate information :beer:

Normally when i shined my supposedly "200mW" 405 on a wood table it would immediately begin to smoke, and i saw in that picture he was shining it on a wood table... and that it wasn't smoking... (best way to determine power of a laser, 10/10, 100% accurate. good job brain XD)

but yeah, i agree with everything you said. those darn 405's are so odd.
