The 16V limit was because of the caps. They are rated for 16V. I am using the same ones. The IC itself should be able to take up to 35V tho.

The 12V limit is because of the new polarity protection setup. You could always remove the MOSFET from the input and bridge the pads, to get the old input voltage ratings. As long as you don't reverse the polarity, nothing bad can happen. And there is still the schottky on the output in reverse, in case the polarity would somehow be reversed.

So if you bridge the MOSFET, you can use up to 16V again.

true. i had rkcstr bridge the MOSFET for me cuz i needed a little extra voltage leeway. good man ;D

That is awesome Dave!

I'd love to see what 300mW of 405nM looks like. Even at 130mW or whatever my new laser puts out, its quite impressive. I hope that diode lasts, so you can enjoy it for a long time to come

Why should something happen to the driver? There are no red vs. blu drivers. The only thing that differentiates a 300mA "red" driver from a 150mA "blu" driver is the current setting. It has nothing to do with diode type. It's the same driver with different resistors.

The diode type just changes the minimum required input voltage. You could just as well power a red diode from 9V, or more. The driver would just heat up a bit more.

Oh, i misunderstood your question then..

It is hard to believe it's surviving, but Dave uses frogs! I still haven't figured out if they are for heatsink grease or something else tho...

It's NOT the frogs themselves. It's the frog's milk I use. You have to learn to "milk" them. Of course first you must make friends with them. Frogs won't let just anybody milk them, you know

I would NEVER harm a defenseless frog (unless they were on the menu that evening)

Hey IgorT!

Are you going to send one of the "messy" lenses or am I waiting until the finished product is here? Either way is fine. I am a patient man. I was just wondering.

Peace,
dave

Hmmm... whenever you get the lenses in and get ready to do that 380mW burn... you should be ready with a good camera w/tripod! maybe even burn one of your 150mW blu-rays next to it for comparison sake? I know the camera won't do it justice... but it would be a good comparison for those of use who can't see it That and having a good camera nearby would be excellent for documenting the possibly last burn for the diode [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Dave we might as well tell everyone what's REALLY going on here.....

A few weeks ago, Dave actually sent me a box a 500 frogs in a crate, via fexex freight. He also included a shovel, a set of water color paint, a purple sharpie, and instructions.

I was to bury the frogs. One frog per hole, all facing north. Prior to burying the frogs I had to soak them 'violet' water, dyed with the water color paint. I then I had to write '405' on the back of each frog, using said purple sharpie. Finally, the 500 holes had to be dug in such a way that they spelled "300mW 405" when viewed from above.

I finished all the instructions, gave Dave a call and let him know that we were good to go. Two days later this thread pops up.

I figured you guys deserved to know the truth.

That's what i asked you in the email.. Did you answer it? :-?

I could send you one of the distorted beam lenses, just so you measure the power. But you will have to capture the distorted part too. It's not pretty... :-[

The only thing it would allow you to do is measure the power. You won't actually want to use it for anything else.. Trust me on that.. We're gonna need the aspherics for a beam that can be enjoyed.. Otherwise, i won't wait for the third manufacturer. They are just too slow. I am currently discussing the mounting options with the second one. One of their lenses has a perfect beam.

Milking the frogs you say. And i just bought a new blender. Damn! Should have bought a frog adaptor for the milking machine....

I thought that I did. However, I AM older today than I was yesterday. I may have neglected to answer :-[

It will depend on how much longer you estimate that it will take to choose and get the "good" lens. It is just very frustrating to have this laser sitting on my desk . . . taunting me [smiley=evil.gif]

Maybe I'll put it in a drawer so I can't see it

I apologize for the breakdown in our correspondence. Did I miss anything else important in your email? :-[

Peace,
dave

Haha, hiding things from oneself is good sometimes..

Like i said in the email, i would gladly send you a disaster lens, just to see 370mW on your meter.. You won't be able to do much more with it than that, but i don't really need it, for the same reason.

I can mount one in a lens nut and send it to you with your pen. The only other thing i asked is... In your email.
