I took every part of the diode out of the 360 HD DVD drive, except for the final little housing it is. I cant seem to pry it out. I'm sticking a tiny screwdriver in the little holes on the side. It looks a little like theres something small blocking it from coming out. Has anyone had this problem?

Try taking pliers or something and bending it until the diode falls out. Or get a electric saw (or dental drill), and cut the metal part around it WITHOUT touching the diode. This is easy for me since my dad is a dentist and has all kinds of fancy machines.

the metal is usually brittle, i used two pairs of pliers and snapped the bracket in half, leaving the diode ready to go

Get some heavy-duty wire cutters and nip away the heatsink. Works great every time. (as long as you don't hit the diode... LOL!)

I just snap the diode heatsink using two pairs of locking pliers ("vise-grips"). Just be careful you don't catch the can in the pliers, though! I did that on one and now it's defunct :(
