So I received my 5 pens that I ordered from Ebay. Sold as <5mw pens, yet all of them measured at about ~50mw with new batteries. They are in newish like pen hosts. Nice rubberized grip and a pretty label . I currently dont have any pictures but i like them for 11.49 shipped each. I will be opening one up to see how they come apart and how they are adhered, pot modability etc..

Here is the link from where i got mine. Shipped out to me Nov 9, and they got to me today. so they literally took a slow boat over here.

5mW 405nm Violet Purple Blue Beam Laser Pointer Pen New - eBay (item 350269809871 end time Nov-24-09 07:48:01 PST)

No pics because i dont have a camera disposable to me at the moment.

Another thing i'd like to mention is that they seem to me focused for about a 12-17 ft optimal distance.

Nice! good to hear you got a nice bunch of lasers there. 50mW is a heck of a lot more than 5mW. Hopefully you can mod them even higher.

Wow, that is a pretty reasonable price. I just might have get one myself :D. On a side note, do you know how much current the laser is drawing?

Hmm, I just rec'd one that looks exactly like that, albeit from a different seller. Came apart with about 30 seconds of easy wiggling, with the tip securely clamped in a wood clamp. There's what appears to be a screw-in lens assembly there, which will easily turn about 2 turns either way, then I encounted heavy resistance. I'm not sure if I'm running into glue/threadlock, or if it's designed to only turn that far. Not real sure how to go about taking it apart any further....:)

I like that! I always wondered how one can tell if a unit might be high performance...just luck? Can you tell from a pic somehow?

That same seller also has green lasers for sale too. Has anyone bought/tested them?

I wonder if they are over-spec too?

That would be cool for my multi-laser art project....now I just need some over-spec reds and yellows!! Any ideas?

Cheers,

Unfortunately, yellow is nowhere near that cheap. Add a zero, and you can get about 2mW of yellow from LaserGlow.

For $11 crank it out LOL. Maybe this one is different, but IIRC the thread size is the same as a AixiZ lens assembly. So it can always be replaced.

Should we really be patronizing a store that sells dangerous lasers as safe level lasers?

I mean, over-reporting milliwattage is just scammy, but under-reporting it by a whole order of magnitude is criminally irresponsible.

LMFAO. That's a first. OK I cans see your point, but the amount of people wanting a 5mW laser at spec is far lower than the amount of people who love an over spec laser LOL.

LOL No..we shouldn't buy from them because the lasers are over spec. WOW!!!

I went ahead and did everything I could think of to get the module out of the host with no damage to host, but that wasn't going to happen. I ended up slicing the host in half with a dremel, and removed the module that way. I saw no evidence of adhesive in there either, so I'm thinking host and module were machined to fit perfectly. I'm charging up the camera battery now, so hopefully I can get some good pics of the module for you guys.

More to come....

Sweet you should also try pot modding it and see if you can maybe get 100mw's out of it!
