I bought this blue/violet laser pointer off of ebay for $80. here....

http://cgi.ebay.com/5mW-SKY-Violet-...4|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1307|301:0|293:1|294:50

I bought it expecting it to burn things, even though it states 5 mW in the description. I figured all blue laser pointers could burn things. especially if it's a blue ray diode. So i figured the seller just put it as being 5 mW just so he could be able to sell it on ebay.

But anyways, it doesn't burn things. So, I'm wondering if I could possibly make this thing stronger?

thanks in advance.

Oh, and Kipkay from youtube sent me :)

I think you should have done some research before wasting $79.99US plus shipping
for a <5mW 405nm Blu-Ray Laser pen...

The giveaway is his statement...
"To get blue laser light first you need an infrared laser which pumps a crystal ,this in turn pumps another crystal , which pumps another crystal, in order to get blue light at our our eyes peak sensitivity of 405nm , Because the optics used for generation of blue laser light are less efficient and more expensive than those used for green, blue laser diodes are still expensive but hey ! at least they are available !!"

You do not get 405nm (Violet) from Pumping Crystals...
That is only done for 473nm actual BLUE DPSS Laser Diodes...

The human Eye's peak sensitivity is NOT in the (405nm) near
Ultra Violet range but at the Green wavelengths...

With a little research on the LPF forum... you could build yourself a
405nm 100mW laser for under $50.00....

BTW... welcome to the Forum...

somebody told me that i can take the crystals out and it would become a green laser pointer, and it essentially would be stronger. is this true?

That would be if the laser was a real DPSS blue laser.

it's the advertisement with more lies about a laser I've ever seen.

If the diode in that pointer is a PHR, you can tweak/replace the driver and get more power out, so if you're willing to take it to pieces and potentially break it, then we may be able to help. The driver inside may be "pot-moddable" but you can easily blow the diode like this - how good is your electronics?

I don't think it's a phr. 5mW can be a PS3 or just a low speed blu-ray reader

yeah... he definately pulled a fast one on you... and i garuntee there isnt a single crystal in that blu-ray pen lol

the diode is most likely a cheap knockoff... like the mass produced >5mW red diodes.

that really sux dude... if you eventualy get bored of the pen... you could always replace the driver or "pot-mod" it if it has a pot... and if you DO blow the diode... most likely with a little precise workmanship... yo could replace it with a cheap diode of any kind... or even a badass diode, with an awsome driver... THEN you can burn away to your hearts content.

There's a BIG difference here! The only 405nm diodes I know of are not made in "knockoff" plants - far from it! Cheap red diodes are much more easy to produce than violet, especially since the process is patented by Nichia.

LOL this one is like the one i had from BOBlaser, I just purchased one now, i did some pot modding and my money is now WAISTED. LOL it even says there that i can pot mod it.. but with just a little turn the laser broke...

this is a china made laser i guess same as BOBLASER because when i opened both boblaser and this one.. they have the same module and diode..

the thing is my boblaser is 80MW..

The laser that this thread is talking about can be pot modded but it is a bitch to get inside without destroying the laser. It can be done though. electrical tape layered over a few times on the tip, vice grip, lots of wiggling and pulling.

As for the other ebay laser from BOBLaser,
These can be tricky to pot mod. Sure they are easy enough to open but once you have it open you need to make sure to keep the loose case grounding wire in contact with the case. It is freely moving about. Also only the slightest tweak of the pot and I mean slightest turn will take it to the limit. Not to worry. You won't kill it by turning the pot too much (in 99 out of 100 times) If the light does not come back on upon reassembly you simply turn it back to the right spot. If you cannot find the right spot try adjusting the current while supplying power at the same time till it comes back on.
