My laptop has a dead Bluray player motor. Is the diode still good or should I just throw the drive away? If it is good is anyone interested in paying for the shipping for me to send it to them?

How are we to know if the diode is dead? A dead motor does not mean a dead diode, but you never know until you test it

The motor is dead, I would assume the diode is still good. I am not technically knowledgeable on these things but I do remember seeing the bluray forum so I thought I would offer. New drive on the way and rather than trashing this one I thought I would offer.

Is there a way for me to test just the diode? I do have a multimeter if that helps.

Is it a burner or player? Unless it's a BR-burner the diode is worth the same as a PHR (5-10$)

Ah... I never thought of that, it is a player only, not a burner. Thanks ARGLaser

No problem! If the drive can't be fixed it could still make a fun project to turn it into a laser.

I will leave the offer standing then. It is a slim drive so I wouldn't imagine the shipping would be much. shipping from 58554
