(The bulkier laser above the silver tipped one)

I recently ordered this laser from a Chinese website, and I was just wondering if any of you have used it and how long they last. I was reading a few reviews from this forum about similar Chinese lasers like the toplaser 302 and I heard that the diode dies if you use it for more than 3 minutes without turning it off. Can anyone confirm that? Also, what can I do to make sure I don't damage the laser.Thanks.:)

PS. Is the beam fairly visible at night?

Too little information to figure anything out...
Specifically which website did you get it from?

Honestly, I doubt it will die with a 3 minute duty cycle at 200mW but I would stick to 1 min anyways. It's a good habit to get into anyways...
BTW, I doubt that laser is anywhere close to 200mW

I was afraid to give the sight name as I might get called a spammer and eventually get banned but since you asked it's from Discount China Wholesale Blue / Royal Purple Powerful Laser Pointer Pen 200mw Adjustable Focus Safety Key [LASER-050]- US$27.59 - ElecDay.com

Hmm... $30 for a 200mW 405nm is really cheap... too cheap, I think.
I think it is either outputting 200mW and has a very short diode life, or outputting much power with acceptable diode life. The latter is more likely imo.

Either way, I think you should keep the duty cycle around 40sec on 10 sec off, just to be safe.

Oh I forgot to answer your postscript. Violet beams aren't that visible, even at night. And since we can't know if your laser will be on-spec,(probably not) the only thing i can say is it will be less visible than 5mw of 532nm.

I would recommend buying from more reputable sites like rayfoss.com, o-like.com, lazerer.com.

Hmm i have 3 30$ lasers that output a little more than 200mw!

I bought a green one that looks exactly the same 3 years ago. its only 5mw but it still works , though it has a rattle sound like something is lose in it. But its been used a lot.

you generally want to avoid 301 lasers i have a few and they either output no ware near what you bought them for or in my case it outputs way too much and just kills itself (had a 50mW laser it actually outputted 200mW until it killed itself two weeks later

Well the best thing to do is maintain a "VERY" strict duty cycle and the lasers should last. I had my purple one since march and it works as great as new. Just take it easy with the duty cycle. Maybe around a maximum of 30 seconds on and 20 seconds off.

Did you ever test it on a LPM? What results did you get? Also what duty cycles do you run? How often you use it?
Thanks man..
