BR Question red/blue

i dont want to sound like a noob (Well i am but thats not the point) but i have a quick question:

i plan on getting one of the BR Diodes from the GB here and want to know about the different diodes (Red/Blue/IR). Can you run just the red or blue by its self? and can you run both red and blue together? i understand that whatever i run i must keep it cool. if i can i was thinking of putting switches in for red, Blue, Red&Blue.

i know someone has asked this B4 but i have not found it yet.

This may not be the case for BluRay lasers, but when I opened my DVD burner, there were two entirely seperate diodes for red and infrared. So yes, I think you could take the diodes out and run them seperately.

For BR, red and IR in the same can you probably could power two at the same time, but if the red burns out, the BR probably will go with it. You will also have problem to focus them because they have different wavelengths.

I don't think it's a good idea to power them at the same time(not sure though).But the IR is totally pointless as it's invisible and low powered and the red is not much of an excitement eighter since it's also low powered.You could add a switch for each one, actually some people already did that.But they won't be collimated at the same time.You can have a nice blu-ray beam and horrible red divergence or the other way around.

Knowing that, it wouldn't be that cool to power them at the same time anyway since it's not gonna be a neat combined beam but rather a nice beam and a horribly divergent one. ::)

They aren't. You can see in the video that the red is noticeably wider from a short distance. It's good for close range pointing, such as a presentation or something.

The lens adjusts quickly though, so you just do a quick twist of the front and the other color is perfectly focused. It takes a matter of a second or 2.


Edit: here's another video we used for selling it... you can get a better idea of focusing and beam divergence between the colors.

That's seriously neat!
The best way of making this in my mind was to have a twisting cap so when it's all the way to the left BR is focused and swiched on, and all the way to the right red is on and focused.And another master on/off switch.That would be cool.
