Default Blue ray whitens teeth

Ive heard all over that blue rays can and can't whiten teeth. Which is is? It's interesting if i do say so myself.

I can guarantee you don't want my blu-ray to be shined in your mouth. Even if you did it wouldn't be more then a second or two before you jerked away.

Oh really, tell that to the THOUSANDS of dentists that have blu ray wands in their office.

The beam is unfocused and transmitted through a thick plixiglass rod like a 6mm fiber optic.

They also use blu ray to harden epoxy on braces, my 14 year old has braces, and belive me, I was all over that wand, it even has the blu ray logo on the side.

wrong kind of blue-ray device. The epoxy hardeners and dental lights are 1.5 to 3W of 350nm to 450nm from a dental LED. No one uses sony Blu-ray laser diodes yet for medical. They don't output the power just yet.

I have yet to see a 1.2 or 2W blu-ray diode.

Nowhere in the first two posts was the word laser or diode used.

However I did miss the word MY in post number 2, so in all reality, I don't want his burning laser shined in my mouth!

Its true... I had to do the same when they were hardening the glue on my braces... both me and the dentist had to wear the protective goggles. But I'm not sure if they are Blu-ray as such... I'm pretty sure they are UV, but it could be in near UV range I guess..

the resin on the braces is UV activated (UV catalyzed) they use the same thing for mounting optics in binoculars and telescopes.

What? I just got braces three months ago and they used the blue light but no protective goggles were involved. Also they do the same thing for the non metal fillings.

Alright, makes sense now, it's more on the UV side, and around the range of 350nm to 450nm, from LED's.

It might be because the teeth whitening process is a greater amount of light (not focused on one area such as a single tooth getting a filling) for a longer period of time? Possibly just some extra protection. I've never had my teeth whitened that way (so I don't know how long it takes) but I've had them use it for fillings and braces and they don't use it for all that long with either of those.
