Re: Blue Ray DVD Writer - Diode Harvest?

Nice pictures! One thing we know for sure...I'm really good at destroying those diodes! Lol. Thanks for doing that Paul...

Hey Paul, can you tell if the die was isolated from the diode case?

Success! Here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1202396141/60#69
Edit: After testing a 6 X diode, and then talking to Hemlock Mike for a comparison, the LPM-1 conversion rate for the 6 X blu-ray diodes is 2.6, not 1.75. I believe it is true for this 2 X blu-ray diode as well. This graph was made at the 473nm X 1.75 conversion rate. So, my 2 X blu-ray at 110mA's is actually putting out 63.2mW!

But even better! Hemlock Mike and drlava with a 4/6 X harvest! Here:

The blu-ray burners are here now!

The real question is.  When can we start seeing you guys custom make them for us?  ;D

Oh man...that's a tall order. The parts alone for mine, total up to about $320 bucks!

And after what I went through in the experimentation stages (and blunders), it would take an offer I couldn't refuse! Something that would get me that 4/6 X drive plus parts! Lol...

I would like to point out that your efforts with the 2x are not wasted. You blazed the trail for the next level with your valuable info. Thanks for your work and graph.

Although I am very happy with my 60+mW blu-ray, I know which drive to buy next! Thanks to you and drlava. I did put a lot of work into this. And especially since I had a couple of bad mistakes at first.

But just that one comment from you Mike, makes it all worth while. I very much appreciate that you wrote that...
Thanks!

If you could guarantee me a working 100+ mW violet laser, I would be willing to pay for whatever you need. Burner + parts + your own profit margin.

But for now I will probably wait, cause I wouldn't want to buy/pay for a burner just to have the diode accidentally fry. Unless I am not liable for that.

Leuk --
Why do you expect some poor devil to GUARANTEE to you this new technology?? We here push the limits of these diodes and there's no guarantee. That's why I WON'T sell one of my lasers to the unenlightened people here. This is a hobby for builders.

Why would I want to pay $500+ for a fried laser? By which I mean the extraction of the diode, and getting it to work. If it was fried in the building process, I wouldn't want to still have to pay for it. And you have gotten 100mW, so I don't think that as a guarantee would be an issue. Since obviously, the 4-6x drives produce a nice amount of power. Just as the PS3 diodes are pretty much guaranteed to output at least 5mW.

Of course after its built and working I wouldn't expect him to guarantee anything, since its basically still in a test-beta stage of things. But this is why I am still waiting...cause you just never know. Give it a few months, 100+mW violets will be hitting eBay pretty soon, and I cant wait for the day!

BTW its truly sad your not going to sell. What a waste of good talent. Somebody is going to make some good money off selling these. And its a shame to see that you hate money and profit. BTW, the unenlightened people are the ones paying your paycheccks. Which is the average consumer. I am not going to spend days upon days upon months upon years learning how to do this crap. I am not that big of a loser. That's what $$$ is for. I pay somebody so I don't have to do the work myself.

I would be willing to pay $600-$800 for one of these. As would many other people easily pay this amount to have a 100+mW violet burning laser. You'd have to be foolish to miss this up.

Also I have a question for you Mike. have you ever bought anything in a store? What about your computer? That monitor? Yeah, that's right...SOMEBODY else made it. So why didn't you make it? huh? Pfft, Mr.DIY my ass. You are nothing but a walking wallet to the companies that have sold you products. Me unenlightened? Stop acting like your all high and mighty 'better than everybody else' because you made a laser, cause your just a average sucker consumer like the rest of us.

Ouch, what a brutal assessment. I think you are missing the point. There are several persons on this site who could easily build and sell such systems. Hemlock Mike is certainly one of them. Your arguments, however, are full of logical fallacies and half truths. What part of hobbyist project do you not get? What part of "I WON'T sell one of my lasers to the unenlightened people here", do you not understand. Building a burning laser and selling it to someone who clearly is new to the hobby is fool hearty. Mike knows this. Do you think you would be the only person liable if you hurt yourself or someone else using such a device? Furthermore, anyone who builds and sells a laser system regardless of the output must register the laser with the FDA. Failure to do so opens the manufacturer to criminal litigation as well as civil litigation from the improper use of the device. Your accusations only serve to increase Mike's resolve in this matter regarding not building a system for you. You want a blue-ray burner, build it yourself. Buy one on eBay if you have to. None of us will risk our financial future or our freedom to make a sale to an unknown quantity (that's you).

I'm sorry? New to the hobby? I may be new to 'MAKING' lasers, but I am not new to the hobby in general. I have been fooling with powerful lasers since last January, and lasing for most of my life. I am WELL aware of the dangers of lasers, and ESPECIALLY powerful ones.

So don't give me that bullshit.
