blu ray ps3 laser help

i just got my laser diode from a ps3 and the red laser seems to work with two AA's but the ultra violet one doesn't even light up with the same AA's. can anyone help me figure out why or help me getting it running, thanks

The red needs 3V. The violet needs ~5V.

You SHOULD be using a driver to control the current and protect the diode from spikes.
