I have a 6x diode with an acrylic lens and I have been thinking about upgrading it, at least to an aixiz glass. I have read several posts that mention that 405 nm tends to degrade acrylic lenses more quickly than red. Any idea why this happens? And how many hours would a typical acrylic lens last, assuming approximately 200 mw?

I don't think anyone here has done that kind of quantitative work. Most people either get a low loss glass lens or just replace the acrylic from time-to-time.

FlightLevel350;

If the 200mw BR is focused at a few inches for burning, the 50 cent lens will deteriorate in an hour of use.

A well-designed short F.L. AR glass lens will give you 30% more power out,
and a narrower beam in addition.

That would be 260mw, if you are at 200mw with the plastic lens.

I have noticed some degredation on my lense after increasing the power of my O-Like focusable. the 'splash' looks like a star almost, and a lot of noise around the dot. This is only after an hour or 2 at most of use.

I'd love to get a glass lense from Larry or jayrob, but I just dont have the cash. will the cheap glass lense from AixiZ be much of an improvement? I know power wont increase, but I guess it wont degrade near as quick.

I guess its from the heat the Diode puts onto the lense thats distorting it so fast??

Ahh, Thanks for pointing that out Jayrob! Though I have no idea how one ould fit into the O-like module...

I seen in another thread you mentioned about a 'sure' module, could this be the one used in the O-Like Pens??

Not quite sure what module they use...

There are a few modules that fit AixiZ lens threads. In fact, AixiZ doesn't manufacture the modules or the lenses. (I don't think)

Hmm, I can get an Aixiz moule for aout £5 shipped here in the uk, and will get it the next day. I will try to order one next week and have a look.

I asked a mate to look for 'broken' DVD burners at the car booot sale. so should get a diode cheap for a nice red burner.

 That's a lot of £££ !
In the States, these can be had for $3 to $5... I suggest you try our good friend Kendall at Hightechdealz.com... he has those for less than $4:

With shipping cost, I'm sure it's going to be less expensive than £5.

Thanks for the heads up Robert. I will keep them in mind, but for the sake of about £1.50, I'm not that bothered, Id rather know its coming the nex day.

If i was ordering $200-300 of laser, it would be a different matter.
